Possible US-AA Merger - discussion. May be run by US Mgt, remain as AA & oneworld

There are lots of people talking about this atm in the AA lounges...... Couldn't get away from the topic........

re: Confirmed US-AA Merger-72% AA 28% US be run by US Mgt-Stays AA & oneworld

Hmmm, pity when two of the best value FF programs merge, especially as each has strengths and weaknesses...

Also pity if USDM does get folded into AA as it works better for me as a program and i have a couple of hundred thousand USDM miles, hopefully the nuts and bolts will take a while to work through and i can get rid of at least some of these miles if i can book my next planned redemption early 2014 (would have rather made the booking sort of mid 2014 but probably just have to take what i can get)....

Possibly Tomorrow will see the announcement of the Merger

American and US Airways Merger Announcement Expected Thursday - ABC News

They've been dating for a year, and now it looks as though the marriage of American Airlines and USAirways will be announced tomorrow, according to a source close to the negotiations.
The source tells ABC News that details of the merger agreement have been worked out, but it still needs approval of the two airlines' Boards of Directors. They are meeting to consider the deal.
If the two carriers merge, they are expected to retain the American Airlines name. The new airline would become the largest in the world.

Re: American Airlines and US AIrways merger approved

Colour me concerned.

Debating the merits of booking a one-way trip to use half the miles I have and get something out of them in case something drastic happens...

On a related note, I suspect someone will know this, what's the typical sale price ex-USA on QF round-trip in Economy to SYD/MEL and also PER?

Re: American Airlines and US AIrways merger approved

I certainly hope so... Don't like the way you can wake up one morning and find changes unilaterally made on US Air's program like points costing more or more points required for certain awards... No 3 or 6 months warnings...

I have enough miles to book a trip to South America next year, and if Aust makes the World Cup in Brazil I wouldn't have minded maybe stopping to take a look at a game or two, but if it seems like a quick one might be pulled i will try and just book it for earlier in the year...

So for those that are studying the merger, and now given the merge is on, what's the laymans pros/cons coming out of it?

I fly AA a bit each year usually up front, what should I be worried about?

I liked how they were upgrading their fleet, any thoughts on what will happen to that?

Not sure there is any point in being worried about what you cannot control?

Poor choice of words by me, more a desire to be informed. As we all know travel in the USA can be very very ordinary. I like to avoid ordinary as much as possible ;)

Can't copy the whole URL but after the newamericanarriving part: /customers/enhanced-loyalty-program/

I thought that was a QF thing, or is it standard across OW as well?...

Yeah, I read it. But fail to see any red flags.

[TD]As a valued member of the US Airways Dividend Miles[SUP]®[/SUP] program, we wanted to inform you of some exciting news. Today we announced that American Airlines and US Airways will combine to create a premier global carrier. Operating under the iconic American Airlines name, one of the most recognized brands in the world, the combined airline will have a robust global network, a strong financial foundation and one of the most modern and efficient fleets in the industry. We are excited about what the combination of our two great airlines means for our valued customers.

More Access to More Destinations
The combined company will provide customers with access to more choices and increased service across a larger worldwide network and through an enhanced oneworld[SUP]®[/SUP] Alliance, creating more options for travel and benefits both domestically and internationally. The new American Airlines will offer more than 6,700 daily flights to 336 destinations in 56 countries.

The combined company is expected to maintain all hubs currently served by American Airlines and US Airways, with increased service to existing markets and service to new cities. It is also expected to provide the most service across the East Coast and Central regions of the U.S., including the East Coast shuttle, and to expand its presence and further strengthen its network on the West Coast.

Enhanced Services
Customers will also benefit from American's landmark agreements with Airbus and Boeing, designed to transform the new American Airlines fleet over the next four years and solidify its fleet plan into the next decade. The combined airline is planning to take delivery of 607 new aircraft, including 517 narrowbody aircraft and 90 widebody international aircraft, most of which will be equipped with advanced in-seat inflight entertainment systems offering thousands of hours of programming, inflight Wi-Fi offering connectivity throughout the world, and "Main Cabin Extra" seating with 4 to 6 inches of additional legroom in the Main Cabin. In addition, as currently provided on US Airways' Airbus A330 international Envoy service, American's new transcontinental and international widebody aircraft will feature lie-flat, all-aisle access premium class seats.

Largest Loyalty Program
As a US Airways Dividend Miles member, you will be able to enjoy unparalleled benefits. Here are some of the benefits the combined company will offer our members:
  • Even more opportunities to earn and redeem miles from an expanded global network of routes and partnerships;
    • 122 new destinations through which to redeem miles
    • Earn miles with more than 1,000 participating companies, including more than 20 airline partners
  • Unmatched redemption options including flights, hotels, car rentals, vacation packages, one-way awards and club memberships; and
  • Worldwide benefits through the oneworld Alliance.
Until the merger is complete, US Airways and American Airlines will remain separate companies and each company will maintain its current loyalty programs (US Airways – Dividend Miles and American Airlines – AAdvantage[SUP]®[/SUP]). In the meantime, your existing miles will continue to be honored, and there will be no impact to your US Airways MasterCard[SUP]®[/SUP] or US Airways Visa[SUP]®[/SUP] card. You can continue to book travel and track and manage flights and frequent flyer activity on www.usairways.com. You can also continue to earn and redeem mileage for travel awards with us and our Star Alliance[SUP]™[/SUP] partners.

We expect the combination to be completed in the third quarter of 2013. Additional information will be provided to customers of our frequent flyer program on any future program updates, including account consolidation or benefit alignment. In the meantime, please visitwww.usairways.com/arriving for the latest information.

We are committed to providing you with safe and reliable service, and we look forward to continuing to serve you on US Airways and on the new American Airlines.
