Coolangatta airport and Jetstar

Except DJ don't have a Lounge at OOL (and I haven't heard any plans to do so).

So if you are a QP member and you are flying to SYD, you have no lounge access, but leaving SYD to OOL you have . How bizarre.

So, if you fly to & from the Gold Coast with Jetstar and you want lounge access, then you need to have two memberships (QC & JQ Lounge)? Unless members of the JQ Lounge get access to the QC (not likely).

If VB opened a lounge at OOL you would presumably have access at both ends and only need one membership! Now there's a marketing opportunity.

Another perspective. At $20 or $25 entry, how many say young male sporting groups would think great, get to OOL airport about 2 hours early, pay your money and spend the next few hours getting pxx_ed. Much cheaper than beers at the nearby tavern. What sort of atmosphere would that create.

Children under 6 free! Bean bags! Children's cinema! Is it a lounge or a child care centre:?:  No thanks, one real benefit of a lounge is to excape that sort of thing

I don't think they have their marketing strategy quite right.

The marketing I read said something about family friendly. Dare say these are things that are pretty much straight on the marketing strategy.

I think you also miss the point that the kids are occupied by these things and are isolated in an area by themselves away from the "big kids". Unlike in the qantas club where the kids are mixed in with the adults, who are trying to escape kids, and they are also bored.

Ohh and I believe that kids under 8 or 10 are free with qantas. If not, my experience is that they at least let in 8 year olds, extra to guest allowance, without question

I take your point, however can a child friendly environment and the statement below coexist :?: Not for this customer anyway :)

Gold Coast Lounge is a great place to relax in a friendly and welcoming environment away from the noise and distraction of the terminal...

Nice to have 'seperate' areas for children, but really do they ever stay in them for longer than about 10 minutes? Not usually, in reality they are in and out constantly, backwards and forwards to parents, drinks, food, siblings etc This just brings the noise and distraction of the terminal into the lounge.

That doesn't match my experience. My kids pretty much don't do these things if they are occupied, having the airline provide the distraction would help me not have to carry around various toys etc. (plus a few beatings does a world of good for behaviour ;))

But then I've also had the little darling who kicked the back of my seat from MEL to BNE in J. YMMV.

Personally (and I know i'll cop some flak from the parents out there for saying so), i'd like to see kids banned from the QP all together.

I find the majority (not all) of the kids in the QP are loud, obnoxious and often downright rude, and when left to their own devices (which often times seems the case), turn the place into a bit of a circus and evaporate any possibility of attaining the peace and quiet I entered the lounge seeking in the first place.

I've lost count of the number of times i've been standing in line for hot food only to have the little "darling" in front of me pile his plate higher than Mt. Everest with food leaving none for anyone behind them.

Perhaps i'll feel different when i've got little darlings of my own to bring into the QP myself, but until then I'll have no choice but to keep wishing they'd turn the QP Adults only.

Which is why the QF business lounges are generally better now, less kids.

While I think that's putting everyone in one basket, I can see where you're coming from. Perhaps if they had a small area for families to sit in, that might help. And in most QP's adding such an area wouldn't be a big issue, most are fairly large.

Never had a child pile his plate sky high in front of me. Would be an annoyance I admit though, so be a kid yourself and skip in front of them for the next plate of food, it's easiest to beat them at their own game.

(incoming flak!)

You have obviously never met my daughter... Who is much better behaved than many adults... One of the great things about the Syd and Mel QP is that you get great views of the apron and she likes to sit there and ask me typical 4yo questions trying to work out how everything works...

Don't just blame the kids... Plus QP rules state that:
Our lounges are places where our members can relax and unwind or keep on working. We ask that children, including Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyers, under the age of 18 years, are accompanied by an adult and that they are closely supervised.Children may be asked to leave if their behaviour is disruptive. We also ask that children do not enter the Business Centre areas or operate any equipment in the lounges or Business Centres. In Qantas Club lounges, children are not counted as guests if aged three and under. Children are usually welcome in our partner lounges.
So if you are having an issue raise it with the LA... I know I would even if I was there with my daughter at the time!

Amazingly kids that pile the food on the plate manage to get through most of it - I swear they have hollow legs!

I think the hot food might be the only stuff that appeals to the kiddies. I can't see munchkins piling up on salads, cheese (well, at least the cheese which is put out on the food bar), fruits (yeah, that's a laugh!), soup and bread (maybe).

As for the hot food, however, it's not just kids that bring a Mt Everest pile home. Everybody knows the hot food is a premium, so there is always a nice contingent of adults during "feeding time" which are ready to snipe at the bar as soon as the next batch of hot items are delivered. And most do not just take a few servings for themselves - often they take three to five times as many servings. Pretty soon, in a flutter of a few adults, all the hot food is gone again.

Does this mean singing and dancing* girls after dinner time? :p (* this is a euphemism )

Seriously though, most places I go to the kids are under control. If they were out of control, I'd either move or tell the lounge agent, and that usually sorts things out. A kids play area might not be such a bad idea (it would need to be "walled off" however, so that the kids could scream as loud as they want without the noise rebounding into the lounge proper).

Can we pad it and put a lock on it too??:mrgreen:

 Sure that wasn't me.

At least my darlings eat the food that the adults don't seem to like, such as the olives, salami and the pseudo-camembert. Yes, between the beatings my kids don't eat unless it is grown up food

It'd need proper supervision, and screaming kids shouldn't be appropriate in a lounge. If they come in, they're well behaved. If they're not, they're not welcome.

Parents can deal with discipline after the trip is finished, and hopefully the child will get the message. Or said child wont be making any more trips with the family, until they learn to behave I'd imagine.

Respectfully - no way... anything that makes the club more of a destination for kids gets a no vote from me - leave that to Virgin!

Having said that I have only probably had 1 or 2 horror encounters in the club with out of control kids. Very few and far between, there aren't that many around in 'peak' hour when I fly.... on weekends etc maybe a few more but I don't mind so much then!
