Coolangatta airport and Jetstar

Hi,
I also have a complaint about the very inconvenient transport arrangements to OOL for us Brisbane people. To travel to OOL requires taxi to a station, train to Robina and then a bus to the airport. The alternate is a $205 private limousine service.
Another alternative is to get the taxi all the way to OOL. In the past this would have cost maybe about $120. not sure now, but I would expect less than $200, depending on where you live.

I actually asked a cab driver the other night what his longest fare was. Reply was "done a few trips to gold coast" and the cost was about $200.

He passed comment you could book a limo and only pay about $125!

Would be a lot cheaper to use Coachtrans from BNE airport to Gold Coast. Not sure if they will drop off at OOL, but certainly will to accommodation locations at Coolangatta. So find a hotel close to OOL for drop-off and than order a local cab. BNE to Gold Coast accommodation locations is a flat $39 one-way for an adult. Cheaper options available for families and return transfers.

But it may not be "direct" and you may end up getting a scenic view of other parts of teh Gold Coast depending on who else is in the same bus at the time.

Clearly, inflation has caught up with my estimate. Largest fare I experienced was $240 Brisbane to Oxkey. My gold coast fares, BNE Old international (it was some time ago) to Surfers were about $120. Given the improved run down the highway to OOL, I was guessing it'd be about the same. Shame about inflation.

For all those who are interested in OOL Intl lounge, JQ will be opening one there soon.
From what i've been told they will be doing a launch to the Japanese market first off then to the Aussie market a few days later. (launch i mean asdvertising)

gilby08, that's good news.

Presumably it will be a JQi branded longe and will only be open for the JQi flights (early morning to SYD and mid morning to KIX/NRT) and not accessible to JQ domestic passengers.

I'm travelling SYD-KIX via OOL this Friday and returning next week. Looks like I'll just miss out. :(

Does anyone know whether WP's and Gold's etc will get access to JQi lounges if NOT travelling Starclass???

Had the misfortune to land at OOL 2 weeks ago.... ofcourse the renovations are continuing but its currently a dark hole! No light at check-in, toilets are small demountable-type buildings (borrowed from a Primary School somewhere) and without doubt, the Gold Coast is "over rated"

I hope it'll be available to all the old users of the QP there. Because if it's a purely Starclass thing, I don't doubt Jetstar NZ will be taking over some lounges in NZ before too long.

In fact, isn't it actually the old QP? (I only visited once, but I reckon the doors look very familiar.)

It could be a JQi Starclass lounge, but I doubt there would be enough custom to make it worthwhile.

With JQ taking over NZ services, it may be that JQ are about to launch some lounges of their own - OOL + all the QPs in NZ perhaps? (Could help minimise the number of very peeved NZ FFers if they still had lounge access on JQ.)

If so, it might be available to WPs, or perhaps even to all that would qualify if it were a QP?

Or, knowing Jet*'s proclivity for selling things, maybe you will be able to pay-in to the J* Lounges?

I guess this will be a lounge primarily for *C passengers. QP pax....do you think it'll be big enough?

Naturally, once it opens, we'll all have a hearty complaint about its inadequacy. :) :p But I guess some lounge is better than no lounge, right?

I just wish they would also open this for transit passengers; I guess I have my doubts that would happen, but the current transit lounge is rather boring and harrowing for some pax.

I just figure there's got to be quite a few people that pay for QP, both in Australia and New Zealand. Speculation here, but if Jetstar were to take over some, if not all of the QP's in NZ, but didn't offer access to QP members, they could see a sizeable revenue loss? I only bring this up, because I doubt they're just going to open one lounge, so naturally the policy at this lounge would be relevant to all lounges.

My two cents anyway.

I saw the JQ Lounge @ OOL today.

I've uploaded 3 photos to Index of /jetstarlounge (files are around 600kb each).

The location is kinda next to the check-in counters. Once you go past security, you go round a corner and there it is.

It looks like the interior is finished and just needs the infrastructure (computers, food, etc). It could also do with an "N" (see 2nd pic) ;-)

The old QF lounge was roughly (I believe) where Gate 4 is now.

I am pretty sure this is just the old QP re branded ,

It could not really be for *Class passengers, as this is in the Domestic part of the airport, and *Class is on international planes only, ( i believe ?)

Maybe there has been an uproar over the reduction in QP services at OOL ?

i guess time will tell whats really going on

An interesting to know re Coolangatta airport: its part owned by a man called Alan Moss. Some of you may know him as the top dog who ran MacBank. This guy knows a little or two about airports...

They could have the lounge available for use prior to immigration. Makes it a bit tricky if you then stay in the lounge too long and can't get through immigration in time. Seems a little odd.
