Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

Todays visit to Bunnings saw no visible preparation or provision for minimising covid-19 transmission.
Like Woolies and all the other self serve operations , the checkouts presented as a virus proliferation wonderland.
Someone from the media needs to start testing places like this as there is an air of business as usual that needs to change
Mea culpa , I had disinfectant wipes in the car but need to lift my game and carry them with me.

Both hubby and I have sanitiser and wipes in our car, on our desk, in my bag (he has a baggie of it to put in his pocket). He, as he deals with the public more, doesnt leave home without it..... because I nag the heck out of him about it/ask every day if he used it after getting mail ect. I wont even kiss him when I get home from work without washing & gargle first

Near impossible to stop the spread of anything in that kind of retail environment, let alone corona!

But again, it only gets you if you place your hand into your mouth, nose or eyes, ears.

So practicing good hygiene standards will keep you safe, just like it would if there was gastro lurking about on the Bunnings desk!

(My local Bunnings does have hand sanitiser for the staff at each till though I did see)

Woolies have a dispenser of wipes at the main entrance.... normally used for wiping the trolley handles.

Still normal supplies of toilet paper at our local and only saw one person buying a pack at the checkouts.

The woolies wipes have been there for ages, but there needs to be an overarching social campaign to encourage folks to be clean.
Why not large notice at the woolies entrance asking patrons to use the wipes or sanitiser before they shop ?
Why not a prominent notice at each touchscreen checkout with the same reminder and some wipes or sanitiser.
Bunnnings could do the same at their checkouts, it would be good corporate imagery.
Why not a 30 second reminder before the 6 o'clock tv news…everywhere... how to stay healthy and out of hospital

Too much hype and not enough practical action will likely see our hospitals overflowing with customers who could
have stayed clean with some public education and encouragement.

Agreed - the government have been absolutely hopeless with communication and messaging, I don't know why it is taking them so long!

To be fair I think a lot is being done in the background and we are handling it better than a lot of countries.

How much of this is the government or just individual places taking initiative I am unsure

We get daily updates on email from the school as to the situation
Weekly updates from work
1 person at our work has been put on 14 day isolation
Another person at Mrs work been isolated for 14 days
Small thing but I even saw the cleaner in the building disinfecting the elevator buttons today

What I would like to see is some form of cleaning teams on the train wiping and disinfecting the poles and hand rails.

But then we also sometimes go a bit too far, someone at works son came back from an internal flight with a cold (runny nose and the works), tried to go see the doctor and was denied entry, sent home for 14 days isolation.

We would wonder whats wrong with SA for the lack of toilet paper panic but then we remember Snowtown and just back away without insulting the South Australians :D

Been to 3 different Woolies, 1 coles and an Aldi this week and all completely out of toilet paper.

Spoke to the lady behind the till at Woolies while we were checking out on Saturday morning and she told us they had a delivery that morning but all gone again. You head down to Farmer Jacks or an IGA and there are heaps of supplies.

So at our locals its toilet paper, tissues, pasta (but not coles brand) and flour (againt not coles brand).

I find it very weird that the pasta aisle is empty but the pasta sauces are still there - Im obviously not prepper enough to understand this one.

At Woolies Southland (Melbourne) some fkwit has stolen the wipes in the dispenser!!
Also still no paper goods/pasta etc. Utter madness.

Yes this has been circulating, exactly what our government needs to be doing (Aussiefy it like SLIP SLOP SLAP).

Slomo is probably more worried about the coronavirus being detected in Hawaii!

All jokes aside, where is our mass government awareness campaign on hygiene etc? Need to pump this out on social media, TV, radio, billboards....

The woolies wipes have been there for ages, but
I've been using them the past week and wrapping it round the basket handle.
But my local store has run out and apparently Woolies distribution is out of stock too.

Liquid soap situation improving, but still no hand sanitiser. And headache tablets out of stock.

Glad I randomly bought toilet paper, Panadol and pantry basics a few weeks ago as part of my usual restock. Plus we have Amazon boxes of nappies so we've got no need to stress yet. The toilet paper aisle of Woolies was already empty at 8.30 this morning.
