Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

Can you use antiseptic cleaning wipes to wipe your bum?

Because if the toilet paper runs out here at home... we have about 14 packets of cleaning wipes now. Hubby just came home with 2 more.

Not that these will ever go to waste but geez, he only went to the store to get bacon. He also said no paper towels, no toilet paper and no tissues
Not sure about the wipes - so long as they are hand wipes and not bench ones.
We have asian style spray hoses on our toilets - its cold only which is brutal in winter but works well so if we run out of paper we are fine.
I was ordering something from the pharmac_ just as the toilet paper run started and the lass said she hoped I didn't want any paper as they were out. I didn't and explained the sprays. She suggested that since nearly everyone has a hose down in the garden they should be fine too. I liked her thinking.

I experienced the opposite of panic buying. One of our staff has a young child of 5 who with kindy and childcare always has some grub miasma about him. She has two parents in their seventies who arent in great health with chronic stuff but still ok. Last night I was asked my MrP if I knew where to get some sanitising gel. She had none and only started looking this week. Even in our neck of the woods its been sold out for weeks. I bought four tiny bottles and two slightly larger natural products that were on the kitchen bench waiting to be used Thats all I had.. I gave him one of those, but in reality I would go through what we now have left, if used properly, in just a couple of days. I did say to tell her that she should not use it yet until we get human to human transmission in SA because there will be no replenishing once its gone.
Ive discovered foaming soap, never used it before and love it.

But yes, washing your hands is better than hand sanitizer but hand santizer is good for when you cant wash your hands.

Hubby also came home with those stupid Coles Stickees from the guy in front of him. Hubby said when he handed them to him, he just stood there with them in his hands, like he was passed a bomb. He went to car and used hand santizer than came home and scrubbed with soap and gargled.

Why gargle did he french kiss the guy?

We've been gargling out of habit for over a week now. We also do it daily when travelling, even on planes. I gargle when I get home from work as well/before I kiss him hello. just something I prefer to do. No idea if any actual benefits but with all the travelling, hasnt let us down yet.

Im actually quite worried what the US stores are going to be like today/tomorrow because they are already sold out and so many people coming on my mommy bloggers forum and they legitimately asking whats going on and what should they do. I dont think they realise the poop storm theyre about to step into

oh honey and i love you GIF

I guess, there should be no need for hand sanitising gel around the home, unless the plumbing is on the blink or you have a massive house such that it's a major inconvenience to reach a tap. Best to save the gel for outside the home. We have soap dispensers in the bathroom and the kitchen as I understand the preferred method is to wash hands with soap and hot water ( in preference to sanitising gel).

... Toilet paper - I have 8 rolls I'll be fine
Should get you through the first 48-72 hours on the potty, should a really nasty bug come along? However, potty paper is not something that we like to run out of, generally. ;)

I believe many have been buying bottled water too, ask any prepper and they will say you should have supplies for situations just like this.

Shopping this evening in my local Coles - lots of toilet paper but no rolled oats. When I asked the guy if they were bringing more out he said no they were all gone - apparently the latest panic buy. How am I going to make my muesli?

I’m sorry what lol. Why? Because the taps will stop working? Or because someone at the water works is going to cough into the water and it’s going to end up in their house.

What. Morons.

You could do your own research! Google isn't that hard to use. But essentially preppers believe that events can escalate, e.g. How long do you think essential services will keep working if all their workers can't work?

Hahah brilliant!

Oh right sorry I totally missed the part where ENTIRE workforce in essential services have ZERO back up plans whatsoever (like A/B teams etc) to keep life essential services like water running.

Oh I also almost missed the part where this virus is incapacitating EVERY single person to the point where they can’t do any work whatsoever.

My apologies. I’ll do proper hoarder/prepping research next time :)
