Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

No time for Australians to start acting as humans

To be charitable.. they are frightened and don't really know what to do.
There is a variety of information about encouraging them to have enough at home to get by for a few weeks.
The supermarket supply chain is geared to a regular volume that doesn't cope with a change of buying patterns.
I asked swmbo to buy a bit extra a few weeks back.. she thought I was nuts , but did as I asked.
We walked around our local Coles and Woolies today and she was amazed at the empty shelves ..
I took some pics…. for posterity

Hubby's been talking about putting the in laws home garden back into action for about 18mths now, I think he will after this.

I offered he goes to one of our field stations instead. Less tears and frustration for both of us

is there anything you really need and we can keep an eye out and post it over?
I think we're ok for now, thank you. I'm keeping my eye out for loo paper and baby wipes as we will need some in a couple of weeks.

I'm more concerned about the toilet paper situation at work, the cleaners didn't restock the ladies bathroom last night...

I just want to counter the previous post about how there's been no hoarding in Singapore with the vast contrast I've seen from my acquaintances there:

This is the second round of this, the first one being when the social distancing measures were first introduced. This time around, Malaysia has announced border closures and Singaporeans are (quite rightly) concerned as there is little local production and they rely on neighbouring countries for their produce.

It's quite literally everywhere right now, benevolent dictatorship or not. Everyone is terrified.

Just had the same photos from London (has kids in photos so I will not be sharing) but suffice to say that Tesco looks emptier than my local supermarket sadly.

I just heard that TP is back in our SA stores now. With smaller packs and controls, hopefully some sanity.

Anyone that stockpiled Nurofen (Ibuprofen) needs to do some reading ;)
Because? I always have nurofen (not the codeine version) stashed in drawers and bags etc as it's the only thing I can take with migraine. Is there a problem? I have maybe five packets? I did a quick google and couldn't see anything much.

It seems that the ibuprofen counteracts the work that the fever does to kill the virus and causes the cases to be more severe. Knowing this now, I would choose not to use any analgesic at all if I come down with a fever, it's a good reminder that the body has its own inbuilt capability to fight off foreign bodies.

I guess with young children there is a risk of febrile convulsion if temps can't be controlled. Panadol has the same risks obviously. But it does beg the question, fever being the body response to 'cook' the infection, then why is such medication is ever recommended to fight fever? And in the old days, the use of the tepid bath? Why only now is it coming out that this is an issue when it's been known all along.

I guess in many ways those who choose to take an anti-inflammatory during illness such as the common cold keeps them going so are happy to take it. But this is very different as we know so the communication is very important.
