Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

What is a Commonwealth seniors card? Each state issues them!
The Commonwealth Health Care card is a bit different. Pretty much for those not eligible for a benefit who are of pensionable age. Means tested.

Edit: Just saw the post by FM after I finished typing

Colesworths are missing the opportunity to jump on the membership bandwagon a la Costco. Alternatively they could sell access to designated shopping windows though Ticketmaster and Ticketek so saving those institutions from needing to be bailed out. All sorts of differential pricing possibilities there - maybe Qantas yield managers who have been sent home could earn some extra cash there.

Here you go....

Interesting and something to keep in mind. Baby Panadol is in short supply now. Junior in the family has some at home and at our place. He's also teething and needs it.

The shortage of the panadol isnt due to Covid though, its a dosing device issue. Dymadon is a a really good alternative, and most babies prefer the taste.

So another twist in the restocking issue is that trucks are prevented from unloading during evening hours in residential areas. That is now changing.

Was in Coles today around 0830 with slightly fewer shoppers. The concept of social distancing is not working for most people, and I'm not happy seeing people try all the fruit with bare hands till they get what they like. The screens in the self checks outs we touch to choose the item are not cleaned and there are no wipes in their store dispenser. No TP of course and bareish shelves. Fruit was about the usual recent cost but some veges were very expensive.

I noticed more large independent veggie markets who also stock meats, basic groceries ect are popping up on Instagram and Facebook

Message is we are getting huge daily deliveries. Maybe they get busy with hoarders but they also are another option as they said the trucks are coming daily and you see them being unloaded. We have one about 8klms from us so I passed on the info to hubbys friend who was a bit stressed yesterday. Good alternative to Coles & Woolies

The only fruit I am buying are those that require peeling. Used to gross me out watching people pick through cherries. I went to the services counter earlier this year because one consumer was picking up every single cherry, exmining it then putting it in her bag or back on the tray. She had a large bag of cherries in her hand meaning she'd picked up a whole lot of cherries! The customer services person watched for a bit, then had a little chat with her.

The price for fresh vegetables skyrocketed yesterday. $5 for half a celery stalk?

Has anyone noticed the price of fresh garlic bulbs has gone through the roof 😟 Four times the price (or more) than a month ago.

A vendor told me good ol' social media has spread rumours that garlic will keep away the "C' word and they have been cleaned out and additional supplies hard to get.

Someone at work yesterday said they bought a few bulbs and intended to have a very garlicy steak for dinner, to help stave off the infection.

I just walked away.

It's also completely out of season right now so it relies on imports.

We had chicken kiev last night but I just love garlic. I usually dont eat it during the week because of work so enjoyed every bite

FYI: Friend of mine is impressed with the product from Weyhill Farms in Gippsland. She orders direct.

Weyhill Farm - Buy Australian Garlic and Garlic Salts

(I have no affiliation with them.)

Just was just reminded that hubbys friend is a nurse - forgot about that so even more reason to reach out to people and offer help if you can.

Told hubby by the end of this, I should weigh less but did ask him to be a bit more conservative with his snacking. Hes like a damned Hobbit, 2 breakfasts a day plus brunch, lunch, afternoon snack. Small sizes but damn, working from home I now realise how often he eats.

My hubby just had his 2nd breakfast and if this continues we will run out of food no time! Also, sedentary lifestyle doesn't help much :D

Suggest he pays a visit to the supermarket to replenish.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has revealed a joint police and Border Force operation is under way to catch criminal syndicates which are hoarding supermarket goods and selling them to black markets within Australia and overseas amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Border Force, Australian Federal Police and state police forces are investigating hoarders who are stockpiling food and other items and then selling them on for significant profits.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said he believed the original panic buying of toilet paper and other items in Australia was sparked by a criminal syndicate.

“We do have some people who are profiteering, they are hoarding not for their own consumption," he told 2GB's Ray Hadley on Thursday morning.

He said Australians who had photos or information such as vehicle registration numbers of mass hoarders should contact Crime Stoppers.
