Was in Coles today around 0830 with slightly fewer shoppers. The concept of social distancing is not working for most people, and I'm not happy seeing people try all the fruit with bare hands till they get what they like. The screens in the self checks outs we touch to choose the item are not cleaned and there are no wipes in their store dispenser. No TP of course and bareish shelves. Fruit was about the usual recent cost but some veges were very expensive.

I agree especially about the screens. The one I was using in Coles yesterday needed multiple hits to make it work, but that was probably exacerbated by me having a very dry skin.

In a similar vein, I don't accept the pagers that are handed out at the pharmac_ while waiting for scripts to be dispensed.
I asked once if they were ever cleaned and the response was 'No, I don't think so. '

The only fruit I am buying are those that require peeling. Used to gross me out watching people pick through cherries

I like a nice crunchy apple with skin on, so I've been dunking them for a minute or so in a pot of boiling water then wiping them clean. Apart from the temperature, removing all the wax probably helps remove any nasties.

The woollies staff in Melbourne CBD yesterday were roaming back and forth cleaning the touchscreens. not after every use, but seemed on the surface periodical.

So the two can rule applies to two cans of any vegetables?

Yes I didn't realise that it was only 2 cans of anything. I thought I was ok with 2 cans of tomatoes. So I was a bit embarrassed to have to choose at the checkout. So it was 1 can of chick peas and 1 can of tomatoes. When I told a friend she said you should have just gone back into the store again. But honestly I didn't think of that and I am mindful that there are some people hoarding and I am not one of those people.
I guess I was just surprised and glad I hadn't bought any other canned stuff. Because I don't think it will scan anyway after 2 items. I'm not sure that it is any tinned item or how they class the product. I can understand their reasoning with the people being ridiculous in their purchases, but then I wonder about the older people, who are maybe only going for their early morning shop once a week, who probably will want to buy some e.g. canned soup and canned veggies.

Just got back from an IGA near where I work and happy to report it had stock of everything except mince. They have a hard rule at that shop of 2 per person max of everything in store and it looks like that is working well.

The fancy butcher next door had full counters of meat including mince.

Maybe we have turned the corner.

Yesterday I bought 1 tin of artichoke hearts, 2 tins of diced tomatoes and a tin of fish. I had to put one of the tins of tomatoes back.

Our bird family aren't happy as I can't get mince, but they have been getting grated cheese which is probably a lot better for them.

The item limits apply to anything in that category.
So 2 canned vegetables is 2 total cans across all canned vegetables.
2 milk bottles can be 2x3L light, 1x3L light + 1x3L whole, 1x1L light + 1x2L whole, etc. Not 2x3L whole + 2x3L light + 2x2L etc.

For the soup example, I believe Canned Soup and Packet Soup are different categories, but would have to double check. (eg wet dog food, dry dog food and chilled dog food are all different categories).

Makes you wonder how the homeless are managing. I understand most would get take out or shelter meals but if they go into stores for a few tins of whatever, its even tougher for them.

Plus if anyone does get money from general public, that income stream just dried up for them.

Sometimes I wonder what all the scammers are doing in Italy and France right now, then I laugh and laugh and laugh because I really dont give a flying fig how they are managing.

Interesting he says he "believes there is profiteering by bus loads of Asian Australians, presumably with a trailer, stopping off at each Woolies, Coles..."

Unfortunately he has a long established habit of dog-whistling and scaremongering with false "beliefs". Not saying he's wrong but surely in the current panic, he should present some "proof" or "evidence" rather than further target Asian Australians.

And besides, why don't they also look at the blatant profiteering for Petrol price? Brisbane servos are still at $1.595. ($1/79 for U98) Outrageous.
