Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

Hubby did his morning walk, he sad he waved to all the bus drivers and they waved back, trying to be positive. He said the buses were empty. Drivers wearing masks.

I know people say theres not point but I dont 100% agree with the "no point" so if they want to wear them, I support it.

I have a choc Woolies mud cake hidden but worry about day #2...... 🤣

The problem is they are running out of masks for health professionals. A driver wearing a mask makes sense as they have a lot more people that they are in contact with, but not just walking down the street if social distancing is followed.

I am now doing a weekly shopping list to minimise how often Mr FM goes out. He got away from me yesterday though - had to go to the doctors and was gone 2 hours. When he came back he admitted he had snuck off to the shops as well. :)

I think we need a new icon. Last sentence funny. First sentence not.

Aussies went early, blew all their cash, so now we have sensible orderly shopping again.
Not so much. It was starting to get back towards normal over the weekend, then the announcements on Sunday afternoon/night happened.

Woolworths added new limits today.
2 packs of each type of prepacked meat (Beef/Pork/Chicken/Lamb), 1kg of each chicken cut from deli.
no limits on sausages, burgers, kebabs, rissoles (yet).

VIC and WA have now 'relaxed' delivery curfews. No detail on for how long or if they are 24/7.
SA, NSW and QLD have already removed curfews for 3-6 months.

We don't buy anything fresh from a supermarket. The places where we get these items have fully stocked displays. F&V is starting to sky rocket in price, probably why there's plenty in the cases / tables.

Surely everyone who was into panic buying had already panic bought everything they could possibly panic want. How could they still have further panic left to panic?!

Lots of people with new chest freezers to fill!

Depends where the stuff is now located I guess. $15 for a bunch of fresh broccoli. Frozen all sold out. Ended up buying brocollini which was cheap. Clearly not as well known. An annoying thing - I bought a chicken yesterday for a roast tonight. They were only selling in packs of two. I dont want or need two, I just have the normal fridge size freezer. Oh, do I sound like JohnK? I offered it to DIL and son but she has already bunkered down and wants no contact.

With our groceries we do not now unpack anything on the day we buy it accept things that can go off. (ie meat). It is also put in one room. Each days shop separate from anything bought on a different day. The items stay there and do not go into the pantry.

Fresh items such as vegetables, eggs etc all go into quarantine at home. Indeed everything goes into quarantine including pasta, cans of soup, detergent whatever.

Nothing is touched (except items like meat) , used or consumed on the day that it is bought. We lag the use of everything new that is bought.

Items like fruit and vegetables are washed at the end of their quarantine period.

Where we buy our F&V - $20/kg for red capsicum, they've gone from 2 market visits a week > everyday. Their displays are full. At those prices, many people would be eliminated from purchasing purely based on price, not need.

Yes, but is this something new, or have you always been like that?

Just joking. 😄

I ended up ordering a monitor and office chair online last night as sitting on a dining room chair for 8+ hours a day is playing havoc with my back. of course only expensive models were in stock - going to have one hell of a tax deduction this year for home office. Hopefully both arrive before the week is out. Im over WFH and its only day 2.

I had to head out about an hour ago as had to send some certified paperwork to insurer by Friday. 20 mins walk up to shops saw no one on the streets, but once at my village shops I was surprised how much was actually open i.e Hairdressers, Barbers, Florist, Nail salon plus all the cafes/chicken shop/cakeshop/fishnChip shop doing takeaway only.

Ducked into Coles for some Hot Cross Buns for breaky tomorrow as the muesli bar I had this morning didnt hit the spot. Still no liquid soap, shower gel or hand saniitiser, anti bacterial wipes - over 2 weeks now with zero restock. So im not convinced the panic shopping has calmed on some items.

Supported local business by getting a taeawy coffee and some fish and chiops for lunch on the way home. New level of discpline observed in that i couldnt dig into the hot chips until i got home, had throughly washed hands and grabbed a fork.

Definitely do it Pushka.Basically every phamacy on the Sunshine Coast is out of plaquenil. One pharmacist told me he is limited to 4 bottles a week.Interestingly whilst I was there a woman came in with scripts for plaquenil.1 each for herself, partner and 2 kids. They were private scripts and the pharmacist said they would not be filling private scripts any more just those for the specified purposes.

Too late. It’s on backorder state wide. I’ve left my script and he will call me when it’s in. Given we’ve only 130 odd people and all in care receiving treatment in hospital then it’s a case of some people abusing their medical privilege.
@drron - How many tablets in a private order? Must not be many for a script each!

A private script has no limit so for plaquenil instead of a 100 on a PBS script it could be written for 200 or more.

We did our own bit of panic buying last week - well, we weren't panicked, we thought about it, and felt it was a sensible move. We ordered a "Prepper's pack" from a butcher we've used in the past. There's meant to be one month's worth of meat for a family of four, but I reckon it'll last us closer to 6-8 weeks. Assuming we'll still be doing a weekly in-person grocery shop, we'll also get one or two meal's worth of meat from the local butcher.

Adding - we've let all of our family know, and we're more than happy to give them any of the meat they need if they can't get something and we have it.
