Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

Just received my first (ever) online order from Woolies after registering as "priority" (self-isolated and over 70) - amazing service - right on time in the middle of the advised 1 hour window - cold items still very cold - very impressed - only item missing was Glad Wrap (go figure - who's hoarding Glad wrap ??). May have over-catered the watermelon.

Now here's my question/dilemma - would have liked to tip the delivery person but with contactless delivery (he left our order in our apartment hallway at our request - (ours is the only unit occupied on our floor) and with the risk of handling cash - I could not figure out how to do this. I thought of sending Woolies a message asking if they could add a tip item to the grocery list then this could be shared with all people working in home delivery - but would everyone be willing to kick in??

It would be nice for those who did kick it but whether it got to the delivery person? On the other hand, so many jobless right now they are working. More than most have right now.

We're waiting for mum in laws first home delivery order today - shes under strict instructions to not take stuff off the patio as we will go over and give things a clean first. Cant find my invoice online yet so dont know what isnt being delivered.

Re Tipping. I dont encourage tipping in this country but totally understand why you feel the need to do it. Someone is doing a good thing for us under very difficult times. If you absolutely had to, maybe put some $ in ziplock bag, wipe down the money first and put a note saying you have sanitized the bag/money.

And Im a absolutely hell no for adding a "tip" feature to our online orders. A payroll/tax nightmare for employer.

Thanks for the feedback re tipping - we'll be out of self-isolation on Wednesday so that will no longer be an issue - and there is a credenza in our hallway (ie not part of our unit) where any items can be dropped off / picked up (that's how friends have been leaving our shopping so far). I also figure I could sanitise a $5 bill (say) using disposable gloves and put it in a new from packet envelope and leave on credenza with note saying - for the driver - handled with gloves etc - my next issue is how to get a stash of smaller notes - considering my options.

While I also agree that the delivery person at least has a job where others don't - generosity where ever you can offer it helps in some way.

While I don't want to make ANY sort of political comment on this or any forum - we'll all be helping out in the not too distant future with higher taxes which will be necessary to re-pay the government loans required to fund the subsidies - I don't have an issue with this.

Update on mum in laws 1st order. Only thing not delivered by Woolies was the bread but we have 2 x loaves in the freezer so gave her one.

Otherwise she got all her items, including the Spam 🤢 (I had to cancel and redo order as you cant amend orders)

Tax will be a huge challenge and the gloves will be off politically
I prefer a 13% gst.. fair and simple and picks up everyone.

We tip pizza delivery (we can't get anything else edible) because I still remember my kids joy at picking up tips in their uni years.

Swmbo registered for on line shopping and they had little of what we usually buy.. so I am probably going shopping this week

Tomorrow I can go out to see what panic buying has been doing to my local stores.
It's died down fortunately - on our trip yesterday to the supermarket we saw mince, veggies, TP, etc. Only thing missing was flour - that still seems to be a hoarded item. I really wonder why. Even bread (and other bread-like products) had plenty of stock.
It was refreshing to see full (or at least semi-full) shelves after weeks of dryness.

Still no TP at my local stores, or normal flour, disinfectant or hand soap. If youre into special flours like chickpea then you'd be sorted. Pasta is still pretty scarce, but plenty of nappies and wipes available.

that’s a shame about plain flour,,, I was going to try my hand making scones, recipe given by one of my daughters:

I just need to get my hands on pasta flour.

Both stores I went to had scone mix available 🤔

We have 3 Woolies supermarkets in our area, today I went to the one I dont like going to, but it also has a W petrol. So I filled the car up and did some shopping.
THEY HAD TOILET PAPER !! So I bought a pack 😍

Well it’s day 15, and moved from the isolation to the panic buying thread, and compiled the giant shopping list.

But, but, it’s scary out there!o_O

Woolies has a "Basics" box, to be delivered by Aussie post so no perishables

We’ve created the Woolworths Basics Box to help provide meals, snacks and a few essential items for those in genuine need. It’s not perfect - it doesn’t include everything and is likely to be different to what you’d normally buy. You’re also not able to choose, switch or select the products you’ll receive - but by removing choice we’re able to get more boxes to more vulnerable customers faster.

I think I need to take husband to the supermarket so he truly understands what is happening out there and why I am hiding his snacks for a Covid stay. He gets it of course with work as it went pffft overnight.

I actually think Im losing weight from the lack of snacking. Dont even have any cooking chocolate in the house for emergencies.

I don't eat when I'm stressed. I am waiting on a delivery of Haighs chocolate bullets and speckles. More than just one bag of each coz I had to make the delivery cost worthwhile.

Ive been telling hubby to ask his mum about her Sustagen and guess what... yep, he didnt and now shes out. Now hes in a panic as no delivery available - this man use to manage multi tens of million dollar projects and gets so easily frustrated now. So I just did a click and collect at a Chemist, not in a shopping centre so we can drive up, pick up and leave without too much wandering.
