Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

Has anyone changed their menus ?
We are going to have a few more vegetables based meals as obtaining meat isn't the easiest
More at home meals as we were a bit prone to meals out

I find the whole "shortage" thing a bit perplexing.

A few weeks back our local supermarkets had no TP (and several other items for a couple weeks) and relatives living in the southern suburbs of Adelaide said they had no issues.

Now our supermarkets in recent days have been full of most things except sanitiser and tissues but I'm told the same relatives haven't been able to get a pack of TP for a couple weeks. Some people are selling rolls singly, yet they are manufactured in SA?

We had no (or little) meat for a week or two (just chicken) yet reports on ABC that price of pork from the farm has dropped because of a slump in demand in exports to China yet the price at the market of pork - now more available -has gone up by a couple of $$ per kg?

I suppose part of our issue of acquiring meat is we usual get from a local butcher not Woolies or Coles. Trying to avoid going out for the next couple of weeks. Husband is in one of the groups to not go out . So our groceries are going to be from said Coles or Woolies
@p--and--t :)
We know our neighbours in the block but...only want to ask for assistance if really required . Meat and nice bread , sadly , aren't an emergency

Locally here on the Sunshine Coast, we have benefitted from some logistics difficulties. Can now buy some fresh fish direct from the boats that would otherwise have been exported - yellowfin tuna and swordfish - at $25 a kilo. Truly great product.

Noosa Civic had almost everything on display today. Dunny rolls, pasta, rice, cans of stuff. It's coming back to normal. Of course your local options for fish, butcher, F&V, and also the small IGA operators never ran out of stuff. People will always gravitate to the cheapest option.... best keep that one a secret ;)

careful that you get an impression based on a lucky time of day. There today there was no pasta or toilet paper. :)

Quite the contrary, daily shop for us.
We have moved to a weekly shop. I am finding this challenging as I am not used to having to plan the shopping like that! Much more inclined to say - “Honey I forgot to put xyz on your shopping list, could you just whip over to the markets and get it for me.....”.

Please remember this thing lives on surfaces for up to three days. Best to use old stock, and segregate new stock for at least three days. Rinse and repeat for the next 6 months.

I think that most medical authorities are slowly demolishing that theory - in that it can potentially linger, but 99% of transmission is airborne.

I was reading up on that - recommendation was to wash things, so we thought

bring items in bags and put bags on floor. Wash produce, wash outside of goods. Wash sink. Put cloths in washing machine without touching anything. Wash hands. Run washing machine.

we buy mainly fresh food that needs to go in the fridge.

Is that new as I didn’t think it was airborne. I thought the issue was droplets? All getting too hard - all I do is read this stuff and I still don’t seem able to keep up!

Agreed, only so much we can do. We're also a fresh food household, the stuff that needs to be refrigerated is stored in the second fridge, we do our best to consume after three days, but carefully wash, wash, wash, things that aren't being cooked all times.

Can you imagine how stuffed we would be without good clean running water. I feel great pain for the people around this globe that don't have that. It's so terribly sad.

The concept of droplets is that they are airborne - driven by sneezes and coughs etc.

I understand that these droplets can linger on surfaces, but the vast majority of transmission is when these "droplets" are directly inhaled - that is why social distancing is so important.

Wash your hands is at the same level as social distance ..... in fact washing your hands exceeds, due to door knobs, touch screens, steering wheels, you name it.

If the person stacking the tin tomatoes is infected and uses hit hands to wipe his/her nose just prior to you placing that tin in your trolley ... what do you think will happen?
My experience of a supermarket today was that they have introduced all sorts of things -from encouraging distancing to having to wipe your hands prior to entry. But in every second aisle there were staff gathering and laughing and coughing....
