Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

I'm hearing you @blackcat20, Our latest box delivered yesterday ..... I think we are helping prop up the local wine industry .... thats a positive!
We did a two carton order from The Lane last month which is an Adelaide Hills winery that we visit. It's been hit bad by bushfires and then Covid. Often the site for our wedding anniversary lunch. We ordered a mystery box. We don't drink Shiraz reds, so we gave those bottles to our son who loves them. He has had issues with Covid and work so it was a nice surprise for him. Turned out one of the bottles retails for $120! He was cross as he doesn't like us spending that kind of money until I told him it was part of the mystery box and we hadn't paid much more than that for the dozen.

Today we are off to another area, Woodside, also badly hit by bushfires and Covid for another local winery spend up.

One of our orders was from Eldorado road, they lost their entire 2020 vintage due to the fires.

So many Woodside Hills wineries lost their entire vintages. The Block belongs to friends of my son. All gone. They were surviving on cellar doors only and then came Covid.

Barrett's Block purchase made today. It was awful to hear the owners story of the bushfires. The owner is my age, and she said the flames got so close to their backyard and burnt down their fences. All the vines gone. She said it was a dark period (and she is a woman who has always lived on the land) and then came covid. Their plans to rip out the vines for the coming season dashed. Awful driving through seeing all the scorched trees and paddocks.

Good grief, I havent used up the toilet paper we had and I didnt hoard/panic buy it!

Did we learn nothing?

Reports have surfaced of larger trolley loads and emptier shelves in some supermarkets in those parts of Melbourne singled out by the Victorian Government as being at heightened risk of coronavirus transmission.
One shopper said she had been told by a supermarket staff member that it was the “second wave of panic buying”.
Woolworths told news.com.au there had been “elevated demand for toilet roll “ in a number of Melbourne stores.

Due to the spike in cases in areas of Melbourne, there's been a new spike in panic buying. Mostly contained within Victoria. As a result, both Coles and Woolworths have returned item limits to stores in Victoria and in some border towns like Albury.

Yep, here we go on the merrygoround again. reported by neighbour the two woollies stores 1-2km from us have no toilet paper tonight, quite crowded with people with full trolleys and most items seem to be limited to 2 per customer.

If the media would just self-censor and not put it at the top of posts, lead in story on the news etc, then maybe, just maybe it wouldn't create as much panic..... But no, nothing like a bit of over-hyped sensationalism. They don't even need to send cameras out, just use the interviews and footage from last time ...

Tell fakebook that too.

Tell our mate Gladys the NSW premier that too for her idiotic comments.

Woolworths has limits of 2 per person/shop on
  • Toilet Paper, Hand Sanitiser & Paper Towels
  • Pasta, Rice & Longlife Milk
  • Flour, Sugar & Eggs
  • Mince
in Victorian stores. Big W has the same limits for the above items that they stock. Not adding any limits for BWS/Dan Murphy’s at this time.

The Woolworths warehouses in VIC are:

Melbourne RDC (Supplies stores in Melbourne and southern Victoria) Dandenong South
Melbourne NDC (Supplies slow selling lines [eg hair colour, spices] to all stores nationally, complements Sydney NDC) Mulgrave
Melbourne Prod (Supplies produce to Melbourne/Southern Vic stores) Mulgrave
Americold (contract warehouse, supplies chilled and frozen lines that the chilled/frozen areas of RDCs can't fit. Americold Vic also supplies frozen stock to ACT/Southern NSW) Laverton North
MLDC (Liquor warehose, BWS and Dan Murphy’s stores in VIC, ACT, TAS and parts of SA and NSW) Laverton North
MeatCo (meat packing plant. Supplies stores in VIC, TAS, SA, ACT and southern NSW) Truganina
Wodonga RDC (supplies stores in ACT, southern NSW and northern VIC) Barnawartha North

None of these are in the listed "hotspot" LGAs, though Melbourne RDCs LGA of Greater Dandenong does border one (Casey).
Coles also has a large warehouse in Truganina.

Coles introduced a limit today of one pack of toilet rolls for Victorians

"Ensuring everyone has access to what they need
Following discussion with the Federal and Victoria Governments, we're temporarily introducing measures in all our Victorian supermarkets and Coles Express convenience stores* to ensure everyone can access the everyday products they need. From today, there is a limit of one pack per customer on toilet paper and paper towel, and a two pack limit per customer on the following items:
Hand sanitiser
Flour
Eggs
Sugar
Mince
UHT milk
Rice
Pasta"

The list is the same, but the limits are different.
