Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

Just an observation. There has been talk here and there about banning flights to HKG and even merely transit travellers from HGK being quarantined etc etc. But they have 15 confirmed cases (might be rubbery figure). (see above about a cruise ship banned from Philippines)

SIN has 18 confirmed cases, Japan 20, Thailand 19. No talk of problems with flights from there, or quarantining etc etc.

Just looking at the figures and pondering perceptions 🤔

I agree. Cruise lines have been especially bad for isolating HK by banning people from boarding even if they’ve just transited there and then relocating to Singapore. Decisions are made by US Head Office. Maybe geography is their weakness.

Any statements from our esteemed leaders?

No, Marise Payne stated that 'the Governent wouldn't be commenting' until (IIRC) the flight(s) had concluded' or similar which I take to mean 'arrived at XCH.'

Not sure why it would take this position when we can all look up the flight on FR24 and competitors.

QF6032 flew near Karratha about 10 minutes ago (roughly 1835 AEDT) so should be landing at Learmonth about half an hour beyond that.

ABC report comments the cabin crew of QF6032 are parked on the upper deck most of the flight, suggesting nil by mouth for the pax. Is AJ missing the opportunity to spin this as a test flight for ‘enhanced’ service?

No because all the food and drink will be already at the seats when the passengers get on board. But yes no chicken or beef or bat for that matter).
They still need to do the predeparture safety demo and walk through

I should clarify, seems like. They positioned to LEA yesterday. Various media reports had either the C-17s or "government charter aircraft" as those to be used. Far more likely the latter given the situation. C17s can (and have) been used to move supplies.

I wonder if the evacuees got to check in bags? Not sure if LEA is equipped with ULD loaders, or if it was loaded bulk ex-WUH.

Yes they were allowed checked-in luggage. How much, don't know.

Yeah, I read about C17s for LEA-XCH too. FR24 (and ABC news) notes two Hercules on the ground at LEA. The two A319s both flew there two in the last day or so (although they didn’t admit to arriving 😎). Must be quite busy on the tarmac there.

Cunningly, I found the secret A319s, hiding behind QF on this ABC news image.

Because they don’t realise that some can discover such things on their own. 😉

Many days into this viral outbreak, is it still credible that Laos (mainland Chinese client state AFAIK), Brunei (small population) and especially Indonesia (295 million) plus African (much interaction with mainland China economically through Belt & Road) and South American continents do not have a single reported Wuhan coronavirus sufferer?

And similarly Norway, Denmark, the Middle East including Israel (but excepting UAE) and Central America?

Not all these nations are 'emerging', and some (Denmark and Norway are two) are very affluent, though again small populations.

Many manufactured in ...you guessed it...mainland China.

Forgive briefly OT but USA residents have one of the lower percentages of citizens holding passports of any developed nation. Many can be very isolationist, parochial...(but I still love them.)

Yes. Do not have a single reported suffer? I guess that is your point?

Indeed, to clarify, the word 'reported' or 'publicised' ought have been included.

Maybe it's absent from some smaller nations but Indonesia and the two continents, Africa especially, must be pretty likely to have some sufferers.

Has every evac flight arranged to collect foreign nationals from Wuhan arrived in China with extra medical supplies?

It would appear that the 'payment' to allow the flights and remove people from the quarantine is to give China some of your stockpiled medical equipment.

It was reported Indo doesn't have facilities to test so not capable to rule someone as confirmed. As at a couple days ago their airports didn't (and maybe still don't?) have the capability to take passengers temperatures. Suspect early days to make any conclusions about Indo.
