Cost justification to renew my Amex Charge Platinum

I recently applied for the Westpac Altitude plus.
This also transfers to Singapore at 1.5 per $ on the Amex but also gives you the option to transfer to Velocity, Malaysia, Cathay and Air New Zealand. This is also $295 but 1/2 or less if you bank with Westpac.

Yes I got that one for nothing for a year as a Westpac customer. It may still be a $295 card for non Westpac customers.
With Altitude you can warehouse the points so you avoid expiry dates.

I still have a Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer Amex/Visa combination but the Visa is not in my wallet. This costs $295 I believe.
Hmm thought this was $250, regardless I have had luck negotiating this down to $125 last two years!

Amex plat charge G.O.R.N!!
Both cards replaced in wallet with Citi select.
Now need to find a 1.5/$ Amex with low/no annual fee. Any ideas?

ANZ have one but it is a QFF direct earn.

Dear Cove
I have one of these. I am wondering what the advantage is over the Westpac Altitide Platinum Plus?..I think you have both. I am wondering about ditching the Kris Flyer and getting the Altitude Platinum + alone

Thanks in advance

you can use a few other airlines with Altitude Plat +.
Singapore/Malaysia/Air New Zealand/Virgin/ Asia Miles.
i find Malaysia very good for redeeming points, even just a few months out.

Newk the earn rate is the same but as KLN says you can transfer points to multiple places with Westpac Platinum Altitude .The best feature is you can warehouse the points so the expiry clock only starts when you land them into your preferred carrier.
My plan copped a set back when the Malaysian A380 did not make it to Australia! Plan B is now under consideration.

yes, yes.....I get all that I am then wondering about why I (and you?) have a Kris Flyer Westpac card?

again: Thanks in advance.

I started with Westpac Kris when the Amex earned 3 points per dollar so that was really a beauty. I still use it but the earn rate has halved. This card is now in reserve and could get chopped but as a just in case for when every one of my best cards is loaded to the top.

Hi cove,

The 772 and 747 is not bad for J and F on MH. But of course A380 would be a bonus!

Thanks for clarifying...I am relatively new to all this and had the Kris Flyer account from about its start and never appreciated the 3 points per dollar. :(
And I see your point about having card(s) in reserve in case others are full, or enhanced. I think I'll have a go at the Altitude PP. I have a relatively good relationship with Westpac so hopefully it won't be too hard
Might keep the Kris Flyer one if they let me, maybe with decreased limit

Yes the A380 was supposed to start this year so I thought I was getting a great opportunity in the new department.
I am sure MH product is very nice and my previous flights were always ok.
Have kept some cards in reserve so if something big crops up I can get it all processed in a few days. With credit limits my thinking is keep them unless it affects you in say a mortgage application.

I currently have the Westpac SQ card

KrisFlyer miles earned per $1 spent on purchases

  • 1.5 KrisFlyer miles - Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum American Express[SUP]®[/SUP] Card
  • 1.5 KrisFlyer miles - Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum Visa (outside Australia)
  • 0.5 KrisFlyer miles - Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum Visa (in Australia)
  • Earn double the usual KrisFlyer miles for every $1 spent on flights and upgrades on singaporeair.com (Opens in new window).

Would like to change to the Altitude Platinum Plus
Points earned per $1 spent on purchases
  • 3 points - Altitude Platinum Plus American Express[SUP]®[/SUP] Card
  • 1 point - Altitude Platinum Plus Visa or MasterCard[SUP]®[/SUP]

That would then convert 2points for 1 Virgin Velocity point ??????

As Cove said the KF card was initially very good with 3:1 for the first 6 months for Amex and 1:1 for the visa.
many on here filled their boots early on before dropping it when the Visa was changed to 0.5 per $.
I'm still struggling to use the points before they expire!

Careful WA flyer you will get adoption offers shortly!
Actually I have found Kris flyer miles super easy to use. In fact for international flights SQ has been wonderful.

Yes agree. I have just started negotiating to see what I can get it for. Preferably free.

Yes, good availability with SQ, my problem is finding the time to use them before they expire!

With the redemption charges in foreign currency for SQ flights I use either Citi Select or the Westpac Kris Flyer Amex as both pay out bonus points. Select pays 3.33 net bonus points so that is generous for a Visa card. The Kris Flyer Amex pays one additional point per dollar.

If you want Virgin points then why not get the high flyer cards as it's a Visa and gets the same earn rate. Also handy for the companion flights
