Today I finally got my fat butt off the couch/out of bed and went for a morning walk, first time in a year I set out to do at least some exercise so setting up a daily check in thread for those of us that are desk bound sloths that hate doing anything.

They say 10,000 steps per day is best, Im lucky to do 1000 these days.

This morning I managed to walk up and down my street, which is a hill, 2 times/20mins before I gave up. Tonight I will look for my old Fitbit, hopefully it will recharge, and tomorrow I will try to walk the hill 3 times before giving up.

My motivation is in April I will be in Scotland and there are hills, oh the hills in Edinburgh scare me.

My aim is to start walking to work again by December.

They say it takes a village so does anyone want to join my the village of the pitiful and share your efforts?

There was something I read in the paper today that said 3 minutes of moderate exercise was all you needed every day.

Yeah sure smile thingy.

There is an event called Parkrun, which has a 5km timed trial ever Saturday,

241 locations around Australia plus few in the UK and Singapore.

I was trying to break 25minutes for 5kms but I hate getting out of bed on work days.

Forced myself out of bed and only managed 2 times up and down the stupid hill before I gave up and went back home.

The body and mind is weak...

Ordered a new Garmin vivofit as I remember why I dont like the Fitbit.

The garmin has a visual "move bar". Its a red bar that appears on the screen and increases in increments if you sit for more than 1hr.

The Fitbit I have only vibrates for a few seconds to tell me to get off my butt but thats it.

The garmin red line of laziness is more effective for me.

When it shows up, if anyone wants a slighty used Fitbit with charger and bluetooth/computer sync thingy, let me know.

I try to do a minimum of 6000 steps/day which is around 60 minutes of walking.

Did 17000 steps Sundays and over 18000 steps yesterday.

Doesn't help much.

Good luck - Scotland is all hills

Ordered my Garmin Vivofit yesterday and it was delivered today.

Love the Red Line of Laziness - it really does guilt me into getting off my chair and walk every hour.

If anyone wants a slightly used/excellent condition Fitbit, let me know :)

Yesterday I exceeded 5K steps so happy with that and this morning plodded up and down the hill 3 times before I gave up the will to live and went back home, where there is wifi and coco-pops.

The Garmin Red Line of Laziness had me walking up and down my hallway last night, just before bed time. Its a small visual thing but very effective.

Sounds like you're making good progress @Denali. Keep it up and you'll click over the 10k mark in no time.

I'd also be happy to take that fitbit off your hands.

Thanks. Send me a PM (if you know how with new format) and I can mail you the Fitbit and accessories. Im not sure if a "conversation" is the new pm or public.

Well after seeing this thread initially I have decided it is time to do something. So using the stairs all the time. The 8 flights up in the morning is proving a bit hard to get used to.

8 flights! Its a good thing you work in a hospital!

But well done, Im impressed! Our elevators went out once and I worked from home until they were fixed
