Well after seeing this thread initially I have decided it is time to do something. So using the stairs all the time. The 8 flights up in the morning is proving a bit hard to get used to.
We live on the 7th floor (8 from carpark) and I try very hard not to walk up. MrLtL does it quite regularly though. The only time I use the stairs is if there is a fire alarm (rarely) or if the lift is out (even more rarely).

great thread.. I have been putting on the flab at an impressive rate on the Whisper.
I can't run , so walking is all thats left.
Wandered for 5k ashore yesterday and then managed to walk flat out for another 5.
I then sat down to a big hamburger and a couple of beers for lunch as a reward …...which really negated all the earlier effort….
I use map my run , it provides audible updates on the phone each km with the min per km rate (atm 8.3 average)
I am a goal driven entity, so small victories like lapping other walkers on the 175m deck track is a tiny reward…..

Today I finally got my fat butt off the couch/out of bed and went for a morning walk, first time in a year I set out to do at least some exercise so setting up a daily check in thread for those of us that are desk bound sloths that hate doing anything.

They say 10,000 steps per day is best, Im lucky to do 1000 these days.

This morning I managed to walk up and down my street, which is a hill, 2 times/20mins before I gave up. Tonight I will look for my old Fitbit, hopefully it will recharge, and tomorrow I will try to walk the hill 3 times before giving up.

My motivation is in April I will be in Scotland and there are hills, oh the hills in Edinburgh scare me.

My aim is to start walking to work again by December.

They say it takes a village so does anyone want to join my the village of the pitiful and share your efforts?
Can you link your device to some program to earn some flybuys or other points?

Yesterday walked just over 5K so hopefully will get to 7K next week.

This morning I had a 8am Chiro appointment and the complex always have the stairwell open, encouraging people to walk and my Chiro is 4 flights.

I looked at the stairwell and thought, Not today, Satan. Not today. And used the elevator :)

I'm trying to walk 30 minutes per day.

I haven't had much luck yet.

Does walking around a supermarket pushing a trolley count as exercise?

I'll join you in your village as we struggle together.

I need to do a whole lot more exercise so maybe (hopefully) you have shamed me into doing more. The sad part is that when we are on a cruise I manage 10,000-15,000 steps per day but not when at home.

There is an event called Parkrun, which has a 5km timed trial ever Saturday,

241 locations around Australia plus few in the UK and Singapore.

I was trying to break 25minutes for 5kms but I hate getting out of bed on work days.
One needs to get fit enough to do the Parkrun though BB.

There was something I read in the paper today that said 3 minutes of moderate exercise was all you needed every day.

Yeah sure smile thingy.
I can do that just walking from the bedroom to the kitchen a few times in our house as it's about 20M each way.

Saturday was a sad 3.5K as I didnt do a morning walk - much easier to do on a weekday.

Going to spray fert the garden today so that should score me a few more steps.

In the USA especially in the north mall walking is a popular exercise.

Nice. I'm not familiar with QF. Does that mean I have to have insurance through them?

Meanwhile, my husband just bought himself a Garmin Vivosmart 3 so he can also swim with his and get a heart rate as well. He's been doing 10K per day.

In the current promotion you don't have to have insurance with them to collect some of the points on offer. You just need to download the app, log in with your QFF number and connect your device. If you join QFF through the app there's no joining fee.

Well Denali you certainly have got a few of us moving.
Saturday a 5-6km walk around Launceston taking in Harvest Launceston.
Today a 9-10km walk along the riverfront,to Cataract Gorge and on to Sentinel lookout.Took me 3.5 hours and my back and knees are feeling it.And when I got back to the hotel I took the stairs!

You can earn 30 QFF points each day for 8000 steps with the assure app.

Have found the Assure App a good encouragement, particularly free points and have walked "on behalf" of all my family. About 6K points all up, its not really about the points but its funny how even a few points does motivate you to just walk a bit further. Great on my recent Baltic trip when I was doing close to 20K steps a day.

The QF assure app gives 30 points for 8000 steps through October. After that it gives 'locked points' that can't be redeemed unless an Assure product is purchased.

After a sloth filled weekend, I didnt even leave the house for 2 days, this morning I walked up and down the hill 3 times. Considered doing it a 4th time but quickly came to my senses and took my fuming (over latest US shooting and NRA and typical "thoughts and prayers" but zero change) butt home to cough and whine at my husband.

Downloaded the QF app but it seems to only like Fitbit or some sort of google app, not my Garmin. And it suddenly started making my phone beep and make noises, every time I activated my phone/screen - had to put a stop to that immediately. Very annoying!

Hoping this week I will break 7K steps.

Of course iphone gps tracking has it's limitations…
On the Silver Whisper the walking track is nominally 175m.. so 30 laps should be about 5.2k.
Map my run thought it was about 8k , so I was happier with that until I realised that the ship had done the 8k.. not me.. duuuuhhhhhhhh

 Crazy and impressive!

The Garmin Red Line of Laziness is doing its job. Every stupid hour I have to get off my chair and go for a walk to get rid of it.

Will say that my ankles feel less achy from moving around.

My little tip. When parking your car at the shops, park as far you can from the entrance. Every step counts. Even better leave the car at home.

One guy in my street would drive his car to the corner milk bar. 200-300 metre distance.
