Good summation.I think the interest in the story is down to so many factors
- A sporting celebrity, Aussies love sports , and here we have one that's both hero and villain depending on your viewpoint.
- Its entwined with the Covid vaccination situation. NoVax is a staunch anti-vaxer, again drawing in the auidence for that debate.
- The Morrison Gov'ts handling, so we bring political factions into it
- Border control, so many Aussies understand border control, so we can all relate to the forms, requirements rules etc.
- His Exemption - again, so many are unable to return to Australia, and this guy appears to have been able to circumvent it
I think this is partly why we haven't seen an immediate decision one way or the other by Minister Hawke.
In a country where men will bet on 2 flies crawling up a wall I am sure we have a greater sporting interest per capita than most countries.
Novax thumbs his nose at accepted norms in this regard. Gives many the irrits.
I am not certain the government mishandled anything as a wrong step could have created a legal precedent which so far they have avoided.
From Tom Hanks, who brought covid with him (didn't his missus infect Richard Wilkins during a TV interview), to Novax, Aussies don't like queue jumpers. Fair play.
Minister Hawke, ducks in a row springs to mind.
