COVID-19 and Tennis

Be that as it may I doubt a court (assuming conviction) will impose imprisonment for such a crime. Mostly likely use their judicial discretion which I assume they normally have.
I don't think it'd benefit anyone to put NoVax into prison. But falsification of the ATD can be the basis for deportation. However, he has effectively been granted entry into Australia now, I suspect only the Minister for immigration can now use that as the basis for a decision.

I must have missed it. Where does it say false statement can lead to cancelled visa?

I did ask earlier can Border Force now step in for different cause (misleading statement) before Minister.

Surely Border Force intervened in other players to cancel visa while in Australia

If they can find a reason to boot him without using the executive power of the minister for immigration then that would be a big win for the government.
Yep, and the Gov't can lay this blame onto Tennis Australia who completed the paperwork on his behalf. I'm starting to think Tennis Australia had a bit of hubris about itself.

Would be interesting to know what he declared on entry to Spain

No-one will ever convince me his Serbian Covid test is real. Cut-off for the AO entry 10 December. Convenient covid test 16 December. Oh really, pull the other one, it plays Jingle Bells.
The BBC guy - Russell Fuller had a picture of it on Twitter (in Serbian and redacted for personal info

What does that prove? Just that the Serbian government is ready and willing to intervene when it involves a national hero. They were quick to hold Australia responsible as soon as Novax was detained, and it seemed they were prepared in advance. The level of indignation suggests to me the books were already cooked.

One way I like to monitor these types of events, is to look to the overseas media outlets for their take. It's always interesting seeing your country through others' eyes. This piece in CNN online covers a lot of the background issues, which I think explains a lot to their readers.

This UK article is amusing.

"...
Despite a judge freeing Djokovic early yesterday, the federal immigration minister has the authority to cancel Djokovic’s visa a second time – which would have the indefensible effect of banning Djokovic from visiting Australia for three years.

When you’re in a hole, don’t keep digging.

As Clive James famously said, the problem with Australians is not that so many of them are descended from convicts, but that so many are descended from prison officers. We can only hope that the pandemic is on the wane and that we’ll soon be able to focus again soon on the likes of Djokovic on the tennis court rather than in courts of law.

Mark Higgie was Australia's ambassador to the EU and international advisor to former prime minister Tony Abbott

It’s all rather depressing but mainly disappointing
I really don’t care about the overseas media reports (critical thinking skills cognisant of the facts are not a requirement ), usually Australia don’t rate a mention at all. (Oscar Wilde anyone?)
I ll avoid attending if he makes it through
Even civil disobedience by remaining silent if he wins a point is futile (having sat through so many finals with his fans they ensure the stadium noise is deafening - amongst other things..)

Hey, I am descended from a convict prisoner guard - Irish Sergeant in the English Army - came to W.A in the 1850's with the Pensioner Guards.

I’m fortunate enough to have tickets to the womens final. That will be civilised at least and may (hopefully) have Ash there!
