COVID-19 and Tennis

So have I missed any of the current 'open' crimes and misdemeanours?

1. Not following Serbian public health directions
a) isolation period for PCR+
b) travel from Serbia allowed within 14 days, despite negative on 22/12?
c) mask mandate
2. 'Human error' on travel declaration form - other travel in 14 day prior to arrival
3. Unvaccinated, but disclosed on forms and at border
4. Possible fraudulent PCR test, but may be difficult to prove without Serbian co-operation

Other 'resolved' issue
- travel to Spain within 14 days - seems OK by Spain due to negative test at least 3 days prior

I don't know where Djokovic exactly trained in Spain, but according to this report there was an outdoor mask mandate (except during exercise) in Spain from 23/12, except the Madrid area - I think he did take a selfie with a fan, or fellow tennis player on the local streets

Edited for clarity

Edit: According to BBC, the selfie I recall was in Belgrade

And just in case you were in any doubt about the smugness of Novax:

A French journalist who interviewed Novak Djokovic two days after he tested positive for COVID-19 says he didn’t learn about the tennis pro’s diagnosis until after he was detained at Melbourne Airport.

In an article published by French sports newspaper L’Equipe, reporter Franck Ramella said he was instructed not to ask questions about vaccination and Djokovic’s intentions about the Australian Open during the 30-minute interview.

“Very sensitive topic, if you still doubted it,” he wrote in the article. “He was, therefore, not asked if he had considered getting tested. And if so, what was the result.”

Ramella said the team had travelled to the Novak Tennis Centre in Serbia on December 18 to present Djokovic with the newspaper’s 2021 Champions Award and only learnt about his positive PCR test results three weeks after the interview.

He described Djokovic as posing and screaming during the maskless trophy photoshoot but put his face covering on during the interview. When he was asked to take it off so the photographer could take some photos of the interview he refused.

“Yesterday I took the test before flying to Australia. Negative,” Ramella wrote.

It's another thing hanging over the head though.
It does seem in the public interest to consider whether Djokovic follows the relevant public health guidelines in each jurisdiction, so hopefully it will get taken into account earlier.

I hope someone asks the question about his compliance with Spain's public health protocols as well too if that has legs based on the selfie.

Just noting that in Serbia a negative test appear to end isolation requirements - according to BBC reporting

Serbian Covid regulations stipulate a full 14-day self-isolation period, unless the person who has tested positive receives a negative PCR test result during that period.

Serbia hardly the only country to apply different rules for the rich and important and sounds like many think he’s a demigod in Serbia.
Of course - he doesn’t live there.….
Monaco is much more suitable
you know .. taxes 🤷‍♀️

Herald Sun seems fairly certain is he still going according to intel.

Interesting day ahead.

I enjoyed this quote in the Guardian from the Deputy Mayor of Belgrade about Alex Hawke:

Hawke would be “anonymous had he not held his citizens in house arrest for almost two years, treating them like convicts,” Vesic continued.

😂😂 excellent shot played there.

Though not fun to be a journalist in Serbia.

I'd be interested to know what difference it would have made if his travel declaration had said 'yes' to the question about travel in the previous 14 days. Is it a case of further questions would then be asked about where he went, what he did etc, or is it a blanket 'no you can't come to Australia until 14 days have expired since your last trip'. Because if it is the latter then surely the 'human error' excuse becomes completely irrelevant. Rules are rules as someone once said - oh wait wasn't that our PM who said that?
