COVID-19 and Tennis

Though some are saying that there was a rule change for the border between Jan 5 and 6. I have not verified that.

There needs to be a change to the electronic travel authorisation to Australia (the visa that everyone talks about but it is not the visa)
If not double vaxxed - need to apply for visa at the nearest embassy and the electronic authorisation cannot be used
Your second comment about Australia's visa/authorisation system replied to my comment about Djokovic probably needing to declare this incident to other countries like US, UK if the US and UK ask if the person has ever been denied entry or a cancelled visa.

The games of the seriously rich… how much did he splurge on what was really a personal ego trip ?
Scomo playing games? I hope not. 🤭

Edit: Oh, sorry. I thought that you were referring to the post above yours (Scomo may get the gig)

Why should he be vaccinated if he doesn't want to?

He doesn't have to be, but if he wants to visit Australia he does. His choice.

Fact he doesn't want to get vaccinated however speaks to his selfish sense of self entitlement and complete lack of care for others.

Those who choose not to get vaccinated are choosing to exclude themselves from certain privileges including travel to some countries, attendance at some venues and events.

If the crowd has to be vaccinated, so should the players.

And you are wrong about quarantine, unvaccinated entry with supervised quarantine is an option for Aussie citizens and PRs of which Novak is neither.

Are we allowed to start talking about the actual Australian Open yet? Or, should we wait a bit longer? 🤔
Is the order of play released yet?

Edit: Did Djokovic withdraw before order of play announced? Does the no 5 seed or lucky loser gets Djokovic's place in the tournament draw?

  • Haha
Reactions: DC3
Also, it looks like the Judge's brief comments meant that they only had to decide if the Minister was entitled to make his decision (ie he had the power, and exercised it in the correct way), rather than the merits of the Minister's decision. Does that sound right? If so, most of Djokovic's lawyers arguments (as reported) seem irrelevant?
.. but hopefully billed in very expensive six minute blocks

Found the answer - on Draws | AO Salvatore Caruso is labelled "1" - I'm guessing he is the lucky loser - he should print that page as a keepsake.

I stand corrected on the quarantine issue.
I seem to remember other celebrities/superstars being allowed entry in the past.
My contention is that the blame lies with more than just him and that is my view. YMMV.

The past you are probably remembering was probably pre-Delta. Australia revised a lot of rules since opening up in November. But I do think if an unvaccinated player/celebrity non-citizen and no PR was willing to do 14 days mandatory quarantine now they might have been allowed in on compassionate grounds.

I wonder what the crowd will be like for the Monday night Session. How many Serbs bought tickets to watch Novax.

Why should he be vaccinated if he doesn't want to? It is not mandatory and I know Australians who have chosen not to. Personally I don't agree with them but that is their call. The issue was that a visa was approved - if he wasn't vaccinated and came in early he could have quarantined but his visa was on the grounds of prior COVID.
No one is blameless here - she should have taken responsibility to check the visa answers and not rely on a staff member (the buck stops with him) but TA and Vic giving him a medical exemption is a bit poor (when noted in the rules that had to be vaxxed) and Au Govt have seen this as a bit of a Tampa moment. The assertion that he will stir up anti vax sentiment is just ludicrous, He is now a martyr to their cause,
While never a fan of him, I lost interest last year when he played SA (taxpayers) for fools by claiming he was injured and couldnt play the match here that was the justification for SA providing the best quarantine facilities, and ability to train at Memorial Drive whilst the non star players were holed up in med hotels in Melbourne and not allowed to train. The other stars who were here performed admirably. He showed up in the middle of his programmed match, where another player had been substituted for him and he declared himself to be recovered. So from that time I considered he's a master manipulator. And so I didn't trust anything that happened this time. But agree there's no winners here.

Interesting reading about the guy

It's been interesting reading the comments section of the UK Daily Telegraph.
It's editorials/politics are roughly the same as The Australian. However it has a high proportion of readers of a Craig Kelly ilk .
Usually they would be behind strong borders like mad monks but have managed to put all that aside to champion the "libertarian" Novak. They do have a somewhat bizarre view of what life with Covid has been like for Australia
