Credit cards you are cancelling post 2017 changes

Just cancelled my NAB Velocity Premium as this card is becoming very restrictive in earning points and no more Amex companion in Feb.

Would anyone have the direct number for the Westpac applications people? I am 2 days short of the 12 months exclusion and hope to negotiate getting the latest offer expiring 31 Jan.

EDIT. No, no flexibility on reapplying 363/365 days to get bonus.

Just cancelled Bank Australia Plat Visa...was useful for the 11 months I had it when i hammered the ATO with it.Sadly, come 1st Jan, AT0 spend doesn't even earn the reduced rate of 0.75 pts per $ :( Bizarrely, they wanted me to send my card back to them!!

So it needs to be World or Dragon CCs if you are going to keep propping up the Budget kpc.
So 3M titanium bladed scissors won’t be required if you mail it back to that Bank.
I kept Qudos and I am close to 2 commas on that one. It is now pretty ordinary too.

Good thinking kpc. No need to trust that your signed CC could not find its way to a crook.

My NAB Qantas Platinum is going which is a shame, it was my weapon of choice for quite a few years.

For more than 8 years I have had a love affair with one particular credit card that will be withdrawn on April 3rd. Almost time to move on but with more than a tinge of sadness.

I cut it up into small pieces before I sent it back ;)

I would have told them that I'ld leave it in the meter box and they can come and collect it.

Finally got rid of my Citi Signature after 4 years. Hadn't used it for 4 months and loathed their inept customer service but it put up a good flight until the recent devaluation. About to dump ANZ Travel Adventures after booking the free coast-to-coast flight - good card but better to wait out the year for another bonus offer.

Will leave me with the Westpac Altitude Black for another 3 months until they exit the AMEX game, Coles MC, and Platinum Edge.

About to apply for a mortgage so will be taking a forlorn pause from the churning game.

My wallet will be strangely lighter...

No problems.

I'm having a very average year churning cards, especially with having been OS for around about 4 months so far.

But I've been back in the country for less than 24 hours and have already cancelled my ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card. Now waiting out the 12 months exclusion for ANZ. I held the card longer than I would have liked but needed it whilst OS.

How did you guys manage to open so many credit cards? I applied for 5 credit cards 1 year ago in the space of 4 months and they were all approved but then 2 more after got declined (citi and nab). I had to buy a 12 months membership with Veda to track my credit score. 9 months on, my credit score has only improved from 512 to 524 and i had no new credit applications since. I have a decent job in a bank and I am so frustrated

Here's one thing to consider - a credit card inquiry is not necessarily made by every bank every time you apply for a new card. As just one example I know that no hit occurred to my credit score when I applied for a card with Macquarie in October 2017:

Macquarie Platinum Card with Qantas Points (40,000 QFF bonus points)

Having said that I know that at some stage I'm going to get a rejection, but it hasn't happened yet. So far in 2018 I've applied for 3 cards (NAB, St George and Macquarie) and all applications have been successful.

Out of curiosity Dr Ralph, prior to your 3 applications this month, when was your last CC application and how many have you made in prior 6/12 months?

Of course your experiences may not work for everyone, I'm just estimating for myself

Last application was in Oct 2017.

2017 was a very ordinary year for me with applications as I was overseas for over 5 months in total. I think I applied for 5 cards in 2017. In previous years I'd average closer to 10 cards a year.

I can't believe the credit score only improved that little in the space of 9 months with no activities. Depending on what credit report you use, it might not show complete history if it's sourced from Experian. Veda or Equifax would give you all inquiries.

This is probably regarded as somewhat ironic but someone like Dr Ralph is possibly better placed having churned cards.

Why do I say this, well until credit providers are forced to provide Comprehensive Credit data to the bureaus, some providers (correctly in my view) believe they have better data than the bureaus. This would particularly be true if you have had a card with them and have a proven credit repayment history vs the bureaus who largely rely on enquiry data.

What is everyone using for their go to credit card. I cancelled my Citi Prestige 6 months ago and have been using Amex Edge and Macquarie Hilton Visa (the latter as I couldn't be bothered trying to find another card). Suggestions?

Sad day for me too with the very same card.

I’ve been using my Amex Edge and Explorer mostly.

Coles MC has been my go to for non Amex spend. May now reconsider now that Citi has bought this one too and points earning categories will be aligned to their other cards.

Just got the Macquarie Hilton but for the Perks (rather than points earn) including Diamond membership since I wouldn’t stay enough nights to earn it otherwise.

Looking at Dragon Bank’s offerings and may apply soon to replace the Coles MC as long as they don’t enhance again in the short term.

citibank should stop acquiring other cards...
