They have a spare day for all finals but I'm not sure at which point they invoke it. If there's some rain the overs get pared back and our friends Duckworth & Lewis get involved. But if they can't get 20 overs per side in then they use the spare day to finish it? I'm sure someone knows.

Eden Park is rather small so there could be some big totals. Mind you 150 was almost a big total when Aus played NZ there.

Duckworth and Lewis are the pests I was thinking of. Not raining yet. Will update tomorrow. :p

At least D/L minimises the chance of this happening again:

And if you can make sense of this page you're better at maths than me: Duckworth

SA now 3-216 after 38 overs. After a slow and edgy start Faf and AB are taking it away from NZ. Headed for 330 I think. But there's some rain now.

Rain reduced to 43 overs:
6.45pm We are ready to go. Think we can stop cribbing about D/L. It makes sense to try to finish the game tonight. Who knows what the weather will be like tomorrow? And those saying this is unfair on South Africa are assuming AB de Villiers would have batted all of the remaining 12 overs. And remember they decided to bat knowing there was rain forecast. I am sure if you asked AB, he will not complain about this one bit. South Africa still in a great position looking at the track record of this ground: Australia nearly defended 150, Pakistan successfully defended 222
End of over 38 (12 runs) South Africa 216/3 (RR: 5.68)

    • F du Plessis 82 (106b 7x4 1x6)
    • AB de Villiers 60 (38b 8x4 1x6)
    • TA Boult 9-0-53-2
    • TG Southee 7-1-32-0

6.40pm A reminder that whatever South Africa will be adjusted. For example if they end up with 280, the revised target will be 297 in 43 overs
6.27pm Hearing that game resumes at 6.45pm. Reduced to 43 overs a side. Five overs to go. One out of Southee and Henry can bowl nine overs. Anderson and friends will have to bowl the remaining three. Powerplay is over. No more Powerplay. New Zealand will get nine plus four

You reckon SA ar3 in a hurry?

First time I've seen a batsman caught behind off a wide. Faf out but Miller has come in and flogged them around. Just out now though in the last over. NZ will have a tricky chase but not impossible.

Can't be a wide if he's hit it ;)

I didn't think being caught off a wide was possible.

Well done to New Zealand and to think that Grant Elliot who scored the winning run was born in South Africa.

I did say game of the tournament. Right for once!

What a finish. Steyn struggling to cope now after the result but has been a great cricketer

Yeah- was looking at a 'copter shot of Eden park and fireworks were erupting from the North Stand - I could also see those fireworks coming off the Auckland Skytower in the distance.

Listened to some of the match coming back to work this afternoon, then again on the way home. Turned on the T. ZFOR 5 minutes in he NZ innings. Wow, very impressed they won and it truly was a team effort in the batting.
