Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

Pacific Aria ( P&O/Carnival Corp) 1200 passenger capacity , just done a 3 day cruise to Tasmania.
Supposedly at Anchor, not docked….
Seems future cruises are now canned

Quick, take a photo with a date stamp.
Many are on to it now. Apparently it's staying here for 60 days or something? I have no idea what that is meant to mean. Might check out CC is there's a roll call there.

The news is stating that four ships arrived in Sydney with CIVID-19 effected people. Do we have the names of all four? I cannot find it anywhere.

Another cruise ship (the Amsterdam) arrived in Fremantle yesterday, and from reports on cruisecritic it appears that the WA state government said guests were not to be disembarked unless they were headed to the airport, only to be overruled by the federal government allowing people to disembark and stay at a hotel in the city.

"Finally the announcement was made by the captain (because people really listen to him) that only those people going to the airport would be disembarked"
...
"An hour later, the captain came on again and told us he had good news. Apparently Canberra, the national capital, had overridden the earlier decision and we could not only leave the ship, but go to a hotel. Within a half hour, we had our carry-ons in hand, walked off the ship and onto a bus headed for Perth."
...
"here we are, sitting at a sidewalk table of the hotel's bar, drinking a beer and a cider."

And no mention of anyone being tested.

Incredible after all the fingerpointing with the Ruby Princess in Sydney.

And like Pushka I'm a big fan of cruising - and unlike the 7 day Princess cruises these guests were on a "Grand Voyage" and had already been on board for 2 months - but this situation is mindboggling.

I think the Diamond Princess made it clear pax should not be forced to stay onboard a cruise ship. But I suspect 'go to a hotel' was intended to mean 'go to a hotel and self isolate in your room', not 'go to a hotel and act like you're on holiday'.

I agree, cruise ships make for poor quarantine locations - and as I alluded to earlier I personally don't think this particular ship was a risk - but there's a vast chasm between "leaving everyone on board" and "letting them go free without restrictions"

Meanwhile our premier just said:

We have managed the cruise ship very, very well yesterday so quite different to what happened in NSW.
Look, these are matters we will discuss later on this evening and these are extreme, extreme, extreme measures so we will discuss those this afternoon.
They are extreme measures we are talking about but we want to do our best to protect all Western Australians so we will listen to the medical advice this evening.
Any decisions we make are based on medical advice.

I dunno Anna. I posted in another Covid thread that neighbours were saying today their niece is in the east coast managing hotel reservations. A guy rang up and asked if he could stay there for 14 days for self isolation. She wasn't sure and said she'd call him back. Next question he asked "do you have a gym on site or nearby I can go to". Message is not getting through.

In addition to the Ruby Princess the NSW Health has named four cruise ships as having confirmed cases of coronavirus with one of those ships having done two trips, bringing the total number of cruises identified to five.
The additional trips are as follows:

• Ovation of the Seas, leaving Sydney on March 11 and returning on March 18

• Voyager of the Seas, leaving Sydney on February 25 and returning on March 7

• Voyager of the Seas, leaving Sydney on March 7 and returning on March 18

• Celebrity Solstice, case joined the ship in Auckland on March 10, docked in Sydney on March 20

F-Me, what is it with Cruise Ships and our authorities. Why is not the riot act given to anyone allowed to disembark that they must self-isolate for 14 days and not sit around in public areas?

Enough is now known that this should be a criminal offence for anyone not self-isolating properly, and NO ONE should be allowed now to disembark from any ship or plane without knowing their responsibilities.

Whether it is our Border Force or others people need to lift their game!

Well, “Canberra” would have been very popular as far as those passengers were concerned.

I think the states that have now received nice little presents from the aftermath of Ruby are inflicting major damage on those who were - negligent.

I'm disturbed that the media reports are all about pax from these ships. What is happening with the crews? 25-30% of the population of these ships totally overlooked

On the Cruise Critic board in the Celebrity Cruises Area. I'm in discussion with someone from the USA who expects to be on a cruise out of Sydney in mid April. I mentioned that Australia is off limits to any but citizens and residents. Clearly on a River in Egypt, he wanted to see proof. I guess they don't like it when other countries ban them but it's good when US bans Europe. 🤷‍♀️

HAL are still sending me brochures and specials as well as their (small telephone size) book of April 2020 to April 2021 packages. Last week received details of cruises "from/to your area"

I'm not sure why they bother. I certainly won't be considering a cruise this year.

And with no cases, they are in an incredibly safe place!

Of course the safety is temporary, they must get it sometime, we all must get it sometime... :(
One must assume that the bug and/ or its offspring will become endemic.
We are desperately trying to flatten the infection rate curve.. after that we all have to find a way to live with it.

Or get vaccinated if we can dodge and weave (social distance and hand wash) long enough
