Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

Ruby Princess docking in SYD and they all walked off (except 4 obviuosly sick), now 50 people testing positive and all scattered around. What an utter stuff up.

Shocking, But again, if someone could come up with an alternative proposal as to how to deal with this, I'd love to hear it.

The Japanese taught everyone a lesson in what not to do, that's for sure.

They didn’t even give them self isolating information! They didn’t check anyone other than 13 suspects before letting them off.

Perhaps take them ALL to the Quarantine Station like the old days. Even if they have to sleep in tents for 14 days looking out at the beautiful harbour - anything to save the rest of us. That's only a slightly flippant idea. We have to get serious, inconvenience the few, they knew it was on board after all when they carried some off.

Ah. Well that is a blunder, then, if they weren't given the same flyer as distributed by Border Force at the airport.

Think the Japanese option was the only practical option.
And while you don't know because of lack of test kits, think it's more than likely the quarantine had work - it had just spread pretty widely in the 8 days previously.

Even so, it is wishful thinking to assume that they will all do that. It was PER I think where they did tell the disembarking pax to go and self isolate. An example was pax going to the hotel, checked in and then asked where the local gym was. We will have to get serious soon, do we need to wait until it is too late like some other places o/s. It is clear that the majority of people are not taking this seriously either deliberately or because they are just dills.

The govt messages at various levels are all over the place contradicting each other (eg over schools), which doesn't help.

Fair points. It's all very unprecedented and everyone is just taking their best guess I suppose.

That isn't what the NSW health minister and chief health officer said in their press conference last Friday lunchtime which i was watching on ABC24. They said all pax had been told they had to self isolate but some pax had been heard to say they wouldn't bother as there was no covid19 onboard (now proved wrong). The press conference was to get the msg out that they most definitely did need to self isolate no matter what they thought they might or might not have been exposed to onboard.

The crews get more checks than the passengers. The cruise lines insist.A grandaughter is currently sitting out 30 days on board Majesty of the Seas outside Louisiana.Appear to be treated very well by RCL.Eating sushi and relaxing with no passengers on board.Nor any Covid.

I meant the crews of the 4 ships in Australia that have confirmed pax cases of covid19. We have (as far as I know) seen no figures about the crew rate of infection or how many crew have disembarked.

From that article, "the ship was to refuel at Fremantle before sailing on to Dubai ". Can they just do a refuel and do nothing else without any of them getting close to or touching anything that we may touch...

WA Premier just announced they have a cruise ship off the coast of Fremantle seeking permission to dock.

Yikes.

Marine Traffic indicates that both "The World" and "Seabourn Encore" are off the coast of Fremantle at the moment.

Edit: Looks like it is "The World" based on the next port information being Dubai.

Well, you’d kind of expect them to say that though. Scrambling comes to mind.

This is a nightmare. We have to let them in according to Maritime law except many other ports have refused!

...and I congratulate him stating he will not accept any passenger from that ship being allowed to disembark into the general population sick or not.

If they are well and don't have an Aussie passport, I suggest ferry them straight to the airport.

If they are sick then move them to quarantine with associated medical facilities provided to support them.

If they are not sick and have an Aussie passport, move them to a confiscated hotel and lock them down with security processes in place until 14 days has passed and they also show zero symptoms.

Excellent response all round. Finally getting some brave decisions.
