Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

Stop this persecution. We haven't been aboard a Silversea ship since May last year. 😞
I feel your pain.
I’m meant to be on Silver Galapagos in under 3 months time- obviously that won’t be happening, but I’m thinking positively for the future :)

Too late but finally.
Cruise line companies refusing to take accountability. Treat those who need medical attention then send them to their respective home ports.

We have a Princess cruise booked for OCT 2021 (18 months from now) so hopefully there will be a vaccine by then. And it leaves from Brisbane so just an Uber to the ship. I wouldn't want to deal with potentially being stranded in the Med or someplace far away. I'm hoping prices will go down so we can upgrade to a balcony as we just book the cheapest category. I am platinum with Princess and last time we cruised with them (Panama Canal) we were upgraded to a balcony. It was Acapulco - Fort Lauderdale and there were issues in Mexico that spooked a lot of American pax so the ship was like 60% full.

What could possibly go wrong with using a cruise ship as a hospital ship.

Hope that is sarcasm.

As a few experts have reported, cruise ships partially recycle unfiltered air through the cabins. That's why the Japanese approach to confining passengers to the Pacific Princess turned out to be an unmitigated disaster.

The cruise ships are not fitted with HEPA filters so pathogens are recycled over and over. Makes me rethink cruising in the future unless some new regulations and refits are done.

Why would they do that? The cruises in the near future have been cancelled.
Many not all of them would be in the Northern Hemisphere in the coming weeks. That's what their itineraries would have been so I'm not sure why they'd be in the vicinity of Australian ports from which they've been prohibited from entering and where there are no cruises planned until further notice.

If you own those ships and getting zero income and no idea whatsoever when you may be able to operate again or where you may be allowed to operate again you probably don't want to spent $1Ms in bunker fuel etc moving ships around to ?????? (pick a location)

Over the America's way they have moved them a relatively short distance away from mainland ports to drop anchor near privately company owned Caribbean islands (passenger free) so they don't have to pay port fees etc and the staff can go on shore to get away from the ship.

Yes of course. Its about the money. Just surprises me that being in Australian waters when they weren't meant to have been here is likewise allowable.

In 2018 there were 314 sea going cruise ships.Probably more now.Carnival alone has 104.
19 cruise ships have had Covid pax on board.3 with only 1 positive.
Plus one River Nile cruise ship.
4 have suspected cases onboard.
14 as of the start of the week were unable to dock with no suspected cases on board.

So that is 277 cruise ships that have been able to dock and had no Covid pax or crew on board.
A ferry ship has been converted to a hospital in Liguria,Italy.
