Just came back from our trip to Europe. We used annual multi trip insurance from globelink int-l as we plan on travelling to UK in October this year, we've been using these guys for a few years already but we never had to claim. Anyway, I can definitely recommend them

I don't know how anyone can recommend an insurance company if they've never had to claim. You don't know anything useful about them until you claim.

Well... they were cheaper than most insurers we checked, it was easy to order and my wife's relatives from UK recommended them. That's mostly why I recommended them. I can agree with you though...
but I have never had to claim from any insurance company. I guess I'm lucky)

Just looking for another annual policy (existing Colombus one expired in Feb). Am a mid-30s male.
Big issue is I am planning on overseas scuba diving this year (AOW 30m) and potentially skiing, as well as travelling to Japan (expensive destination)

I generally travel a mix of oneworld and LCC carriers often stitching together itins so missed connection coverage is wanted.
While I don't often hire cars, having something that covers the excesses is useful

My quick review of a few policies - all the Worldwide Global inc US/Canada.

Columbus (base price $290)
- Scuba Diving - now need to buy a leisure pack for this (+$70) - although this only appears to be if diving without licensed instructor.
- Skiing separate pack (+$40)
- Has missed departure/connection
- Rental vehicle excess $3000 or $4000 under premier (extra $40)

Globelink
- Per the page for Aussie, Kiwis and Saffers
- Our entire range of policies is available to Australian, New Zealand and South African passport holders who are currently living in UK
- Ignored immediately

TID (base price $339)
- Scuba included automatically
- Skiing an option ($150 !!)
- Excess reduction ($25)
- Hire car excess $4000 (can be upped to $6000 for $100)
- Ugly travel delay clause (cl 6) - "We will not pay for flights or other transport costs or upgrades for you to continue your journey"

1Cover (base price $359)
- 90 day individual journey
- No option for ski insurance add-on - need to buy separately
- Hire car excess $5000
- $5000 Alternative transport clause
- $5000 rental car excess

All really good stuff - I am looking at similar things as you but have not got into that detail yet. Just one quick question about the Colombus policy, the Scuba Diving is only covered if you are diving without a licensed instructor, but that may not mean that you are covered if diving with a licensed instructor, it just means that if the worst should happen you have to make a claim with the licensed instructors insurer or their public liability policy? Given that you may be diving in overseas juristictions this may be an interesting one to watch out for.

Another question - is snowboarding - counted as skiing in most policies?

I will go and have a look at the TID cl6 - seems to contradict the general intent of having travel insurance - but what else is new?

I doubt you are going to have much luck finding any coverage for that. You will find coverage for delay - but probably not for missing a non-connected itinerary.

Let us know if you find anything that covers this, as this question has arisen before, and there will be a lot of people potentially interested.

TID clause 6 has changed a lot in the new PDS. I was wondering what the fuss was about, because my copy didn't have anything like that, but my annual policy was taken out. That said, I don't see that this is really a problem.

If you have a special event, then Clause 9 does cover costs of alternative transport. If not, then cancellation costs are covered. Really not so different from previous wording, just spelt out more. I am not sure why anyone would expect a "delay" provision to cover costs of alternative transportation - that would be covered under different options.

Is Travel Insurance Direct TID still good for annual multi trip travel insurance?

Needs to cover wife and kid as well.

I think the underwriter for TID has changed to Lloyds. Does that matter?

How good is the worldwide 24hrs emergency number? I think Mondial handled this before, has it changed?

Seems ok still. Massive price increase. Good service with online claiming. Only ever made 1 minor, non-medical (lost item) claim that was resolved quickly.

No idea about the emergency number.

I've paid for another year, plus snow cover, as an adjunct to my Amex and citi CC policies. Tho it has now been pointed out that they only cover off piste(edit- on piste, not off piste) , so I will end up buying yet another policy for the next ski trip/s.

Good luck finding something to suit. I hate insurance comparison time.

Only covering off-piste ??

Don't you mean the other way around ?

Looks like I will go with TID. Anyone got a discount code for an annual multi trip policy, that covers wife and kid as well?

Note that an AFF member with Gold membership privileges can get the base price (with a 20% discount) from $256.

It's a shame that Columbus does not have an option to pay extra to remove the excess.
The maximum trip duration is one of the best for an annual policy.
Prices above are for a single annual policy.

Has anyone had any experience with Worldcare Insurance?
An annual policy for 2 people under 50 with nil excess is $465.50 .
There appears to be an "Age Loading" for those over 50.
Maximum journey is like most other insurers ie. max 37 days for leisure and 90 days for business.

I'm tossing up between QBE for the points and Columbus as it's a good deal through AFF... and half the price of QBE. Don't know anything about insurance though, just know that mum has suggested we get some before heading overseas.

Check the QBE PDS especially in regards to the delays. I have found them to be quite nasty.
