Both discount codes show up as expired.

Did a blind quote and (with $25 excess buyout like last year) it comes to $414 before stamp duty and GST.

Only been with them one year.

Yes, those both expired. Did you try the search for travel ins direct promotion code where it comes up at whatever I said before? Hopefully that price of $300 something is the final price. Certainly say you are an existing customer and you want a discount.

I can't paste the link from this awful ipad min.

I am just going through the claims process with TID for an injury while in Singapore last week, so will soon find out how good they are. It is a pretty straight forward injury, I tripped, fell, broke a bone in my hand and took a bit of bark off my palm. Quick trip to Raffles hospital for treatment, xrays etc.

However, I recently had hand surgery for a different broken bone in my hand (I must be cursed) and the wound from the Singapore fall was right over the top of my surgery site, although it didn't break the actual incision. I'll be interested to see if TID try to say its connected with a pre-existing injury (it's not) as none of my x-rays or CT scans for the previous injury etc show the second fracture and the wound is a scraping wound rather than burst stitches.

Having said all that, my policy expires at the end of the month so I just had a look at the cost of renewal (Annual Multi Trip with excess removal). It came out at $440 which is $17 cheaper than last year. Discount code used was TID5414.

One advantage of TID over a lot of competitors policies is that is covers your spouse/partner on the policy if they are travelling independently of you. Kids are covered when they are travel with the policyholder or spouse/partner listed on the policy. when I was last looking at travel insurance, the only policies I found that covered your partner travelling independently charged an extra premium for this feature.

One quick question. I am travelling to the LOTFAP in January and will be hiring a car for the period I am there. TID covers rental car excess up to $4K. is this sufficient or should I up it to $6k?

Hope TID cover you for your hand! I had a hell of a time trying to get cover for my ankle which I broke 6 months ago and finally cgu would cover me. Although it was $330 for a single US family trip, others quoting was up around $600/$700.

Rental car insurance in America and here is very different. Book online with rentalcars.com or another similar site where all necessary insurances are included. You need CDW, SLI to name a few and these places include it :)

Be VERY VERY careful here - with many car rental companies in the USA there is no such thing as "Rental Car Excess" and as such this facility of TID will not provide any liability cover in relation to car rental.

Anyone signed up with Columbus Direct?? Very competitive rates with gold AFF membership especially when I add on the wintersports package. Normally go with TID but thinking of jumping ship. Any thoughts?

I used Columbus Direct for MiniNM#3's current overseas holiday. Their on-line system would not allow us to purchase on-line as she is 18yo and the on-line system only accepts 19+. So I called and they set it all up over the phone including the AFF Gold Member's discount and emailed the quotation. Checked it all and was happy so called back and paid by credit card over the phone. The terms and conditions clearly state that the policy is valid for 18yo to 84yo, and phone agent confirmed that its valid for 18yo and just a limitation of the online quotation system that requires 19yo minimum. Was is a 31-day world-wide policy with winter sports cover added for a total of $182.

I have also used for my own holiday trip and made a claim for delayed baggage. Filled in all the paperwork on-line including scanned receipts and the full claim amount was deposited into bank account in about 1 week after submitting.

My annual Worldcare policy (Allianz Global Assist), runs out in the middle of a 4 week US trip. I got it for 15% off originally. Any advice please of whether to ask for a good deal in person to extend it a coupla weeks, or any other suggestions?

Hi, just wondering what I should do ... I'm still 5 days short on my annual policy to cover a month trip. Any suggestions on how to negotiate to get an extension? Or any thoughts on the perils of not having the one and the same insurer for the entire trip?

One would presume that you intend to renew your annual policy so cant see an issue if with the same insurer as as soon as one expires then the new one takes over I would NEVER EVER travel in the US with no insurance that is just asking for danger. If you are going to renew with another company then again as one expires the other comes into place.

If you don't intend to renew an annual policy then only options are to take a one off policy for the days that you are short on IMHO.

Yes thanks, I am always very careful to be fully covered. Anyone have any discount codes for travel insurance? I will shop around.

The annual fee from Worldcare (with 15%) discount is $505 for 37 days max leisure trip. That's with no pre existing.

As an AFF Gold Member, these are the discount Columbus showed for me on an annual policy - certainly worth becoming a gold member for that sort of discount.:

Entertainment have 30% discount on QBE policies until end of the month.

I just purchased a rest of the world annual policy (obviously USA only 72 hours) and it cost ~AUD320 with $0 excess for a single 50 year old. The $200 excess option was ~AUD240.

I have had an annual travel policy with Columbus Direct for several years, but thankfully have not needed to lodge a claim with them which I believe is the most important aspect. I would not be too concerned about the premium as the difference is sometimes negligible. Do your research insofar as the satisfaction of policy holders who have lodged a claim, had it assessed promptly and a satisfactory outcome.

I looked up some reviews of Columbus and they were not favourable re claims. Cheaper, yes to buy and maybe there is a connection there.

Also look at differences in coverage. The Columbus multi-trip domestic coverage puts a distance minimum requirement and requires a minimum of two nights third party accommodation - TID only requires a stay away and no distance (but use of a "Travel Services Provider" - not a defined term). So paying for a flight, and staying with family for a night would be covered by TID but not by Columbus.

If you make domestic single night trips, the difference could be very significant.

TID will cover both Motorcycling and SCUBA diving in their standard policy as long as the rider is properly licenced in both Aus and the country riding in, and the Diver is properly qualified or under supervised instruction. All reasonable conditions. They also offer skiing and snowsports (though mildly restrictive) at additional cost.

This seems pretty rare from the research I've done, and suits me very well. In the past I've held policies that were easy to obtain, and they follow up after the trip via an automated email too. However, I've never made a claim with them before so I can't comment on the really important stuff. I'm wary about the extremely expensive potential of motorcycle accidents and diving incidents and cross my fingers that I'll never have to try a claim for them.

TIDTHANKS is a discount code that seems to almost always work.

Easy Travel Insurance have a 35% discount on QBE travel insurance.
Rest of world quote for us (2 adults + 2 kids) is $357 for an Annual Multi Trip policy.
This one has $10k cover for travel and accommodation provider default, which I found to be excluded in most policy PDS that I have read through so far.
Also looked at Colombus as a Gold AFF member but it looks like QBE at this price may be the better option for us.
Are there any better alternatives at this price with a $200 excess?
