Current best option for annual travel insurance

I got the 4 pager from Nov 14 Choice magazine yesterday. I looked at the recommended ones and Easy Travel was not mentioned. The article is worth looking at if you can get hold of it. There was 1only company that would ' consider cover' for cancellations due to terrorism. One I followed up on line did not cover Cuba.

Some have no loading for mature age, some start at 35 yo. Good2Go and AIG are toward the top in some categories. The cheapest Budget one was Travel Insuranz Classic.

Easy Travel Insurance have a 35% discount on QBE travel insurance.
Rest of world quote for us (2 adults + 2 kids) is $357 for an Annual Multi Trip policy.
This one has $10k cover for travel and accommodation provider default, which I found to be excluded in most policy PDS that I have read through so far.
Also looked at Colombus as a Gold AFF member but it looks like QBE at this price may be the better option for us.
Are there any better alternatives at this price with a $200 excess?

I had to claim on QBE a few years back and it took far longer than promised, so have not purchased from them again.

It looks like Easy Travel Insurance is just an online broker for QBE - their site takes you straight through to QBE with all the standard QBE info and policies and even 1 QFF point for every $2 spent.

The only difference that I can see is the quoted price is substantially less than buying the policy direct through QBE or Qantas as the last time I purchased this policy trhough Qantas it was $545 for the same coverage and number of people.

I also had a read of the Choice comparison on Travel Insurance policies? Up until reading that I was intending to purchase my next multi trip policy using the AFF discount with Columbus but their policies rated quite poorly in the Choice comparison, coming last in the Comprehensive, Annual and Mature Age comparisons.

When I tried the Good2Go website it just froze - after several attempts I gave up.

I have a few weeks yet before I need to purchase this year's cover and would greatly appreciate any further leads from AFF members to any other discounted Travel Insurance policies.

I used Covermore purchased through Flight Centre and had to make a claim as a result of a mugging in Cologne, Germany. I had a Wallet, Mobile and lost a pair of reading glasses. In addition a flight was cancelled due to a pilot strike. It took over 4 months to have the claim dealt with, even when it was settled they didn't even pay for what was claimed and I was sick and tired of dealing with them. They never paid for the cancelled flight as they said I could get the money back from the Airline. I have never experienced such incompetence, even flight centre was disgusted. They were no help at all when I was stranded for 4 days without money over the Easter Weekend, it was thanks to the Hilton Hotel who along with Qantas and ANZ ensured that my visit was not a total disaster. When it came time to check out I was given no bill for my food and drinks, and the manager said we look after our guests especially those in need. To Hilton, Qantas and ANZ I say thank you. To Covermore who took 3 days to return my calls for any help during this time, very poor customer service especially to those needing your help. I will never use this company and never recommend it.

That Choice mag article (Nov 14), also had a little table on FOS disputes. The company with the fewest disputes over all was Allianz and, they also had a very high score for 'resolved by Agreement', and a good score for resolved in applicants favour.

Allianz also had one of the lowest for resolved in the fin service provider's favour. All good indicators.

I've never used Covermore. However, I've just renewed my Annual multi-trip policy with TID, who did the right thing by me when the Iceland volcano messed up my flights and accommodation when I was Stranded and Sleepless in Seattle. It's for this reason that I have remained with them.

BA also helped with getting me back on track with my DONE4.

What was the assistance from ANZ, by the way? Was this credit card related?

I had Travel Insurance with Covermore issued thru HRG for 4 or 5 years but never had to claim.

Reading the story above I am rather glad that I didn't have to.

Pay the money - get the service - did you lodge a complaint with the FOS?

No I didn't because I just had enough of all the drama, I have just put it down to a lesson well learnt. The ANZ organised for a transfer of funds via Western Union, as everything was shut, Agent came to Hotel. Service was 5 star. Was a debit card. Honestly no VIP status or anything just good quality service. praise where its due.

I got an offer from Groupon for INSUREANDGO to get a 20% off code. I tested the price for an annual policy before and after applying the code and clearing the cache in between.

Results - 1st price: $441 for 30 days 2) price with code : $353. The code is 'groupon20'.

Gday

I have a couple of international and a couple of domestic trips in the next year, all leisure and none of which are standard revenue tickets. I was trying to price annual multi trip insurance. To be honest the pricing is not too competitive and a couple of things stuck out as odd. I read this thread and Allianz got reasonable reviews so i went to their page and looked at the terms and this was written:

You pay one premium and then you’re covered for every trip you make in that year. Simply choose the trip duration that will cover your longest journey: 15, 30 or 45 days. Your cover ends when the journey ends and begins at the commencement of a new journey.

So am I interpreting this correctly in that i am only covered for the (say) 40 days i am actually away from home and not 365 days from the date of taking out the cover? To me the value of an annual policy would be in the days i am at home and i might get hospitalised/dead/redundant/pregnant etc which would prevent me from making the next trips(s).

Th other red flag was identified by someone above with a domestic trip with Colombus only being covered if you are paying for accommodation with a 3rd party at least 500km from your home for a minimum of 2 nights. This is on page 9 of their PDS.

At this stage i am leaning towards TID if i can find a premium that is under $400 for a couple.

Most here have gone with TID however You want to hear stories of people with claims otherwise their input is useless.

I've claimed once under TID for a minor item stolen from overhead locker and it was paid promptly at above market value.

Claimed twice, no hassles, all online, would always go for them if I could. Unfortunately i need some very expensive ski insurance so my only option is a $1k annual policy.

I think all travel insurance is similar. You're buying a multitrip policy to cover the trips, not the between trips. I believe the minimum distance away from home clause is also fairly similar although I think 250km rings a bell with TID. Trip cancellation is defined in the PDS and you'd be wise to read them fully. To take one of your examples.....pregnancy...I believe most policies use wording similar to "events beyond your control". I'm not sure how rape would be treated, but apart from that, I'm guessing they'd view pregnancy as "within your control".

You will need to read the t&c of that policy. I'm pretty sure with the one I have it is 365 from when the trip commences. ie you are covered for cancellation etc prior to leaving for free effective

I'm hoping to revitalise this subject with people's latest prices, discounts and general feedback on claims etc. I'd be particularly interested in annual cover for trips done on reward points as I rarely pay for flights.

I need BC ski coverage so QBE via Ent book or Ouch! work best for me as an annual policy.

Still have the folks on TID via a 10% off coupon/promo, annual policy too.

I find that the additional fee that QBE and TID charge for snowsports cover make them too expensive these days.

This year I have gone with Good2Go. Decent price, good benefits and the option to remove the excess for only a little more.

NRMA/RACQ/RAA/RACV etc also offer a good discount on annual policies if you are a member and apply online via the membership page.

Oops, just noticed you need BC coverage.
Very few policies offer coverage but I believe that AAMI may be an option.
