Our first SYD Flounge long lunch for 3 years. We’ve done half a dozen trips since reopening, but all morning flights. Up the escalator and into the Flounge and we were offered spa treatments before we could even ask about availablility 👍 The Spa menu is new, I went for the ‘Bag Drop’ which is a shoulder, neck, scalp massage. Mrs Rugby went for a foot and lower leg massage. Both were very good. Shorter at around 15min than they used to be, but I didn’t notice. Desk staff said they’re increasing Spa capacity.

After treatments we sat down for lunch. The first thing I noticed is that the decanter was back! Spa treatments and the decanter - holy moly! For entrees we went old school with a salt & pepper calamari and the bang band chicken salad. We haven’t had the S&P about 6 years ago, but decided it was time for another lash - very good, crispy, tender and a nice size. The chicken salad had some nice depth of flavour and not too much heat. We paired the entrees with Pommery and then the Grosset Riesling (not listed)

For mains we had the Barramundi and the Dan Dan noodles. Both were excellent, we paired with more Grosset Riesling and then the Pinot Noir from the decanter. The Riesling was very nice as expected, but the Pinot Noir was a little light weight and not to our taste - but it was great to see the decanter back and also some other off menu wines.E2417857-94AE-4F82-B23F-FE6FDC8C165D.jpeg339A3F35-41AC-40AA-8E1B-592DD1AFDBA4.jpeg

Was the hot stone massage still on the menu?

Love the dessert pavlova, but after wrangling the fairy floss again, just wondering if anyone has technique suggestions on eating it reasonably elegantly with only a spoon and fingers for help?

I pick the fairy floss top off with my fingers and eat it. Then tuck in with the spoon.
Efficient but far from elegant 😂

How do they compare to CX ones if I may ask?

The dan dan noodles in CX lounges are far more authentic.

Neil's version seems to be "dan dan inspired". The kitchen uses much thicker noodles (seemingly frozen udon) and bucket loads of huajiao (so a really good numbing chilli kick) without much peanut. The flavours and pork mince reminded me a lot of mapo tofu..

IMO dan dan should be saucy enough to be served in a bowl, and that's how the CX ones are. That's not to say this dish isn't tasty, it's just not very authentic.
