Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

SYD F yesterday, MEL F today!

The current JQ17/18 SYD-MEL pair are great for sampling both breakfast and lunch menus in both lounges on an easy and reasonably timed domestic hop, although both were delayed by 1-2 hours after boarding . There was some discussion recently about Jetstar selling J as 'upfront' economy seat on these domestic hops, but on both my flights they were sold as regular J seats.

No luck getting a spa booking ex SYD, but was lucky enough to grab one ex MEL. Here's the MEL spa menu in case it hasn't already been posted.

I thought the Galbi-jjim ssam (lunch) was quite good when I had it last weekend. The stand out for me though was the chicken wing starter. It was delicious

Somebody on the Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyers group on Facebook posted a photo of it yesterday.

Unfortunately, my arvo SFO flight later this month is now a morning flight via LAX - so will have to make do with breakfast….

From the SYD F Lounge tonight:

Korean fried chicken with gochujang and sesame

Steamed blue eye with pickled daikon, sesame and shiso vinaigrette

Mrs sudoer can be a very tough marker, and isn't usually impressed by the SYD F food, but said this was her best visit to date out of 25-30 over the last 7 years. The fried chicken was a real stand out, coming out piping hot and with some decent spice from the gochujang. She said it was on par with some of the better korean fried chicken you might find in Strathfield or Eastwood.

Nice.

What bubbles are on offer or more importantly visible in the ice buckets?

…and any special offerings behind the bar? 😁

Ha, sorry but that would be pushing the friendship, she thrilled enough when I asked her to take a pic of the ice bucket 😂

Still no Taittinger or Perrier-Jouët…😔

Still summer in Melbourne at the start of this week. But I think I heard the chef tell one of the staff the menu was changing very soon. First visit in 3 years so was happy to sample a few dishes.

Mozzarella and tomatoes- nice as expected.

Korean beef which was tender but a little bland. Nice with the chilli and pickles though.

Fried chicken which - as others have commented - was excellent.

And barramundi which was ok but overcooked a touch - and ironically not as nice as what I had onboard afterward.

One or two familiar faces who welcomed me back warmly. Otherwise new but good staff in my observation.

Service in the Sydney lounge was very pleasant, but not terribly efficient. I didn’t get a few items ordered and noticed the same happen to people seated nearby.
The waiter tried to get me to order the pavlova, but I declined due to lack of time. Following an announcement of a delay on my departure he returned unprompted with a pavlova 😊.
