Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

There’s Lagavulin in the MEL Flounge?!?
And Glenkinchie and Dalwhinnie. Have had Aadbeg there in the past, but not seen for a while. While not absolutely outstanding, is pretty good and puts SYD to shame. Just wish they’d feature some Tassie spirits. But I guess these are harder to source in bulk.

SYD has been lacking a bit in this department for a while.

While I like all the staff and am generally really well looked after in SYD, I’ve felt MEL has improved greatly with a new chef in the last 12 months or so, better booze and is generally much quieter. F hosts in MEL now also much more on the ball, honest about what’s available etc. and they are far more proactive (they know my preferences, have secured spa appointments for me in advance and juggled times when my inbound flights have been delayed— even when not flying QF F). Add the easier domestic transfer and MEL is now far and away my preferred port of departure for OW flights.

So before anyone calls me a liar, better get in first. Passed through the MEL lounge again the other day. Ordered a Lagavulin -- this time in the evening -- not available! Was told they'd run out. A bit evasive when quizzed on whether it was temporary or discontinued. I sure hope it's temp.

Had the Gua Bao and Barramundi on Friday - both rather nice. Also had the S&P Squid but we all know what that looks like :)

Worked out well as the catering on SYD-AKL in J was pretty bad so I didn't eat onboard beyond picking at a starter.

Another cracking afternoon in the SYD Flounge. Kicked off with the Perrier Jouet and then moved to the Leo Buring Riesling. We’ve stayed on the white so far, and haven’t tried the decanter yet.

Up thread recommendations for the pasta got the thumbs up and the turtle bean salad was a nice healthy starter. Very happy with the barramundi and the duck for mains - great contrasting summer dishes.

Lucky again with spa bookings available for both of us. New spa staff since our last visit, and we were both very happy with their work.

Good call steering clear of the Dandelion wine (in my view).

I think so too, I did end up having a taste, not worth cutting over from the riesling. I didn’t partake, but whisky options were Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich - no Lagavulin. I must say though that I have been very happy with the Flounge wines in the last couple of years, after a bit of a rough patch.

Never seen Lagavulin in SYD.

MEL has Glenmorangie, Talisker, Glenkinchie, Dalwhinnie, Cragganmore, Laphroaig and a couple more. I hope Lagavulin 16 returns but there's still plenty of nice alternatives.

Might be a 'dumb-cough' question for the regulars who fly in F …

As I've never attended an F lounge before ( but will be next Monday PM ), I'd be curious about this glorious food …

Can you order small portions of everything on the menu ( should you want to try as many tastes as possible ) … and assuming you are very hungry ? ( or do you only get the one choice ? )

Yes, you can ask for an entree sized portion of a main course.

Most of the meals are quite small anyway, Ive never had any issue eating more than one (or maybe I'm just a guts).
