Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

I have three visits to MEL F in a four-week period starting soon. Might even get first pics of the autumn menu if QF is snappy about changing over in the first week of March.

After being overseas for an extended period it will be good to return to QF F lounge offerings. I don't think this is the best menu but if the duck leg and mash is still on then I will be very happy indeed. The Highland Pickup coughtail sounds great (Chivas, espresso and orange) sounds great and will definitely avail myself of that.

S&P squid - cold, over breaded. Very average taste but at least got chilli
Duck confit - duck dry stringy and actually too hard to cut on edges. Mash average. Tasted microwaved. Cherries (cold) and jus separate
Noodles OK but hardly resturant quality dish
The fig dessert was great as was the cheese plate.20200122_132553.jpg

Tried the Rochfort just now. A very easy drinking light whisky. Great addition.
Must be a different Rochfort. To me it is a very heavy drink, more of a Cognac feel.

This was an embarrassment to the SYD Flounge decanter yesterday :) sickly sweet syrup - just awful. Didn’t really rate any of the white wines. The food and service were good - had the barramundi and duck.

We also tried the new spa treatments - I had the ”Lift Off”, which was the same as the old mens facial - very good. Mrs Rugby had the “Baggage Drop” also highly rated.

Visited the Sydney lounge last night prior to QF163 - always eat in the lounge and skip the meal onboard on NZ-bound evening flights. I had the duck leg which I enjoyed.

I also had salt & pepper squid and vanilla ice cream which I forgot to take pictures of - normally have the pavolva in a glass but it's topped with passionfruit which I strongly dislike because of the seeds.

Same flight (on another day) and same choice for me, though not the Pav. Not the same as the real think.

Tonight while waiting for QF95.

The barra was cooked perfectly - it made a nice starter.

The Duck was delicious, bordering on well done but the flavour combination was great.

Had a Chivas Ultis, usually reserved for F lounges, in a J lounge. Howzat!
