Splendour of the Seas was arriving as we departed. Do not envy one bit. It’s seriously hot and crowded here now.

I found our upper deck. Seats in sun and shade. Perfect.

Just catching up on your TR - looks fabulous so far (well except for the whole cancelled flight schemozzle of course)!

Just thought. As there are so many Australians do you get out of having to sing a song from your country?:p
Maybe all the Aussies should get together and sing the one song. Then they will never know which one had the good voice.:D;)

Lotsa Qld and NSW people so Waltzing Mathilda backed up by John Williamson on iPhone should do it.

Dubrovnik is ancient but almost decimated in what is know here as The Homeland War. The bombings came from neighbours Montenegro and the Serbs. As recently as the mid ‘90’s. Being a UNESCO city they had to replace the tiles as close as possible to original but the difference is obvious.

I recall when I visited ... 10? Years ago there was a big propaganda sign by one of the land gates with an air photo of the town and they mapped the bombardment of the town by the new tiles.

The old town was impossibly crowded and I couldn't wait to get away.

I wish I had your yacht back then ( or even now)! Very envious.

After a 3 hour lovely relaxed motor to Mljet, during which time most people had a needed sleep we arrived into a busy tourist area. Mljet hosts a National Park. The tours are included in the cruise. We were a bit wary this afternoon after this mornings tour. And the tour started at 4.30pm when we docked. And involved a few climbs. So we started out. Hot and sunny. But I’m going to post that trip later. The photos are on my waterproof camera. I’ll write something about that tomorrow.

Tonight was wonderful. Balmy weather. We berth overnight and go ashore for dinner. There are five boats lined up at our berth and we are No 1. Our cabin is right next to the gangway. Hoping it isn’t noisy.

Some night shots.

All lined up. You have to walk though each boat until you reach your own.

Meh. Internet lousy. B.B. tomorrow.

We had a difficult excursion yesterday afternoon. It was to the Monastery at Mljet. It involved a walk then a boat ride. The boat broke down so only one working. That made for slow travels. Excursion didn’t start until 4.30pm. The guide was finally able to join us and he was an historian. Unfortunately he went on and on so much so that we missed our scheduled boat. By this stage it was 5.30pm and we calculated it would take another 2 hours to finish. Once we were on the boat we’d have to see that through as we’d be captive. We bailed as did 2 other couples. Our friends didn’t. Most missed out on the swim promised. When our friends returned they looked at us and said ‘no way are we talking to you’. Apparently it was rather tedious and boring because of all the history stuff that just wasn’t relevant to what they were seeing. Many were grumpy on return as the swim was missed and a quick excursion turned into a long four hour one. The tour leader on the boat knew it so today we had a special swim stop.

The picture of the back of the boat and the crystal clear water is some of my favourite memories. Loved jumping into that refreshing water.
I'm enjoying travelling along with you.

Actually it would probably annoy me to have such a high number of Australians on the boat. One of things I really enjoy about travelling overseas (and cruising) is having a variety of people from different countries. Seem to have had run ins with a few in the past. It may be linked to the fact that we come from CBR and many of the less 'intelligent' seem to equate that with a) the government or b) a view that people who live here have no idea of the real world or c) people are all 'fat cat' public servants who have never done a day's work. Mr LtL is not backward in telling people where to get off!
Anyway, enough rant. Weather looks glorious and I think you will be visiting some of the more hidden spots with the small boat. I couldn't help noticing the buses lined up at the wharf for the big cruise ships.

Can I 'like' and 'agree' with this? Non? Well I do!

Well we only have two couples who aren’t our thing, nor anyone else’s it seems, but it’s the guys who are of any issue. One of them is just the guy you know will overstep the mark. The rest are just really nice people.

I’ve posted a story of Bazza on the OT thread.

We have an older couple on board. We were chatting to the lady when she was worried about her 82 year old husband who was on the excursion that was a bit strenuous and went for hours longer than it should so she was a bit worried about him so we kept her company and chatted for a couple of hours. Her husband was a Specialist at a Melb hospital and her children seem very talented. She has some fabulous stories to tell. Anyway this trip she bought herself a bikini. Her first ever. Jumped straight into the rather cool water. Great smile on her face. Next thing she wanted her photo taken with one of the rather young Croat crew members onboard who had gone swimming and she wanted to send it to her family. Inspirational.
