Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Maybe we should not have jumped into to bed with a communist government with a horrific human rights record. No sympathy at all for the wineries that are involved, they knew the business risks.
Leaving any politics out of this (I'm sure there's another thread for that), and while I have no love for those export-only wineries, lets examine what's going to happen to our wineries.

Conglomerates such as TWE, Accolade, Casella etc with established international distribution channels that reaped the most from overseas markets will circumvent the tariffs through Hong Kong, and trickled into the mainland via grey market. Costs will rise, which will be passed onto consumers, and kinda follows this trend of "premiumisation" going on anyway.

Small/medium wineries that perhaps decided to export 30-50% of their production for economies of scale purposes, have no alternative but to purge existing stock. This will most likely be seen through those not-so-mystery/black market wines avaiable from online vendors, as to not damage brand equity (yea... questionable...) No doubt a few will go under, be gobbled up by someone bigger or from overseas, and commercialised.

How people read into this is entirely their opinion, but staying on topic, we're likely to see alot more Vinomofo spam (if it wasn't enough already) and relabeled failed exports and sales calls... yay...

I struggle to justify paying restaurant prices for wine especially now given the deals. Almost always BYO
I brought Bin 389 with me and offered to buy a bottle of their wine and have it replaced with mine. Said they can keep their bottle. They refused. There are not many BYO places left in Sydney and in the wine regions nearby. The pandemic also caused some BYO places to revoke it and becoming fully licensed.

$32 for Woodcutters.

It seems VIC/NSW get way better deals from BWS.

Whites don't interest me, and some of those are a very long drive from the CBD.

I search 10-15 stores, but driving 40 mins to and 40 mins back for a bottle or 2 is wine is hardly worth it in my opinion.
Tempting to head to Stirling but it's a fair drive

I grabbed 4 bottles of the Murphy-Goode with Cashback months ago tho! I still appreciate the effort it took you to write this. I would be happy if some of the others were close to 50% off, but most are just a few bucks under Dan's prices.

I find it exhausting going store by store!

Cullen Diana Madeline?

Just making a list of wines which may interest me down the track. I'm trying to collect 99pts wines.
In-regards to Langton's, if a bottle sells for $70 auction...what's the near end price?

Buyers premium is 16.5% so 70*1.165 plus $10 shipping per dozen.

Langtons say they will charge for storage if you don't ship within a certain time after the auction but I've had bottles with them for close to 6 months while I filled out a dozen before shipping and they didn't charge.

Yeah, $90 would still be a great price.
Ive only bought from Langton's once, normally I've found the prices pretty close to what I could archive with CB.
Cheapest I can find is $130.

Thanks

Would you know if a BWS shop with stock can deliver to a postal address nearby?

Getting a little OT here but...

I don't know about the liquor licensing laws in NSW. However, in WA if you're licensed to sell/serve alcohol, you're licensed for BYO. The number of times when I enquire and restaurants tell me that they're not licensed for BYO because they sell I just call them out as being wrong and make it clear that it's a choice not to allow it.

I think you are spot on. While ago I did get into an argument with a waitress that told me it is simply against the law. I asked them to tell me what law it is against especially seeing BYO allowed on Tue and Wed. I did suggest to her that if there was anything against the law it should be their wine list. And not because of 3-4x markups - it was an extremely poor and mismatched selection of wines. But they did have funky and colourful labels!

The BWS around me do deliver but I don't know if each store has its own preset delivery area or if they'll all deliver within a certain radius. I usually do click and collect from BWS
When I got a BWS delivery it was done Uber style, so it had to be from a nearby store.

Lol! A civil penalty offence under the Wine List (Lack of a Clue) Act 2013.

Here is another BYO doozy that I found on the website of a Vietnamese restaurant I was going to go (Hello Aunty) and I quote from their website

“NO BYO
We are no longer offering BYO wine, for hygiene and safety reasons. This is to ensure the health and safety for all those attending the venue including staff and guest. “

I am comforted that the management is trying to protect myself and staff from those Covid ridden Penfolds bottles, yet they are perfectly happy offer their wine and to accept Cash and Credit cards that are obviously immune to Covid.

I had been previously using Cash rewards for my Dans purchases, but hadn't used it for many months I always forgot But I have never claimed back the money.
I have now got an email from Cash rewards if I don't use it I will loose my it. My question: to claim my money back do I have to supply my bank details? or is there another way?
