Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Re: Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals - BWS clearance

Thx Dr Ralph ! Love a good Montepulciano.

I've only had one before. Looking forward to trying this one.

There were at least 4 more bottles when I was there around 11:30am today.

Re: Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals - BWS clearance

BWS clearance still throwing up a few goodies. Very happy with my purchases - the following are final prices paid in a six bottle buy from BWS Ashfield (who still have some Yalumba Signature, LTC Pierro, Stonier, Paringa, Descendant of Squid Ink, maybe a Parker First Growth and a couple more) (DM's sixer price in Brackets):

d'Arenburg D'Arrys Siraz Grenache 2012 - $7.70 ($15.95)
Plantagenet Shiraz 2012 - $17.85 ($37.99)
Mollydooker Blue Eyed Boy 2013 - $19.95 ($43.70)
Parker First Growth 2008 - $38.50 ($94.99, has been as low as $44 recently)

The Mollydooker is a great high alcohol wine. Recommend you leave it for at least 5 yrs.

Re: Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals - BWS clearance

Argh - you took the First Growth! Was just in BWS and couldn't see it. Figured someone else must have jumped on it! Not to worry - got a dozen in the recent Winemarket extravaganza. Still a few good bargains left, though the shelves are looking a bit bare now.

Edit: Pleasantly surprised by the Signature. Sticker said $39 in a six bottle buy. Umm-ed about this as it's not much of a saving but grabbed one to make up a six. Scanned at $31 and got another 30% of that - $22 for Signature is a bargain IMHO, so went and grabbed the other ones.

Has anyone ever seen a coupon code for "myCellars" now or in the past? Or know of a cash back site that I can use with them? They are currently the cheapest site for a wine I want but before I pull the trigger I want to be sure I can't squeeze any more off the price

Saw someone walking towards the Ashfield station with an open but full wine case at ~5:30. Not sure if you, aamslfc, or someone else reading this thread.

I got 2x Paringa, 2x DoSquidInk, 1x Stonier- only 1 left, and a random Pierro. $91 for the lot (5% off that with eWishGift card :) )

Thanks for the HU carwashhhair

Edit: P.S. there were <25 bottles total on the clearance shelf when I left. A good amount of it uninteresting as well.

Re: Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals - BWS clearance

Of all the tips, tricks and advice I've found on this site, this one (for me) takes the cake as the best, most fortuitous one of the year! :D

As it turns out, I just happened to be down the road from that very same BWS Ashfield when I read your post this arvo. Turns out that racing up escalators can be quite the exercise

Anyway, I cradled that final bottle of Parker First Growth like it was a baby. Throw in the 30% discount and it's like Christmas has come early

My purchase included:

  • Parker First Growth 2008 ($50 odd)
  • Arrogant Frog Rose (always tremendous value; down to $10)
  • Arrogant Frog Shiraz 2014 (never tried but I hear it's great; down to $10 or so)
  • Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz 2014 (Limestone Coast; down to $11)
  • Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz 2013 (Barossa; down to $11)
  • Some random el-cheapo Shiraz 2014 ($4 or thereabouts; some turps purely to make up the numbers... the cleanskin was $1 more!)

Bought one bottle of each, and all prices quoted are before the 30% discount.

In the end, the six bottles in total came to a fraction over $100, discounted to a mere $77

This is great buying at all the BWS stores and you are getting variety which is a key point. I wonder how the bottom five compare to a Fox and Hounds fox creek shiraz at about eight bucks?

I asked the very nice Gary who runs myCellars on an unrelated topic last month and he said they don't do the codes. Not surprising given the prices tend to be very good already. What are you buying out of curiosity?

Bah none of the southern CBR BWS stores have stuff like this :(

Question for the Mod Hats or those in the AFF know ...

I am curious why this thread hasn't got a 5* rating on the home page of the Frequent Flyer Wine Lover section. I am not even sure what the star rating is, but guessing it helps new comers identify the good blogs to discover.

For me, the Dan Murphys and Other Wine Deals blog is the most helpful in terms of wine deals as it has such broad reach, and there is always a good deal to be had that is not one of the three VinoMofo deals posted daily.

Just curious, but I have been meaning to ask for a while.

Received this email about 3 hrs ago. Why buy when there are so many unknowns? Too many other deals available where you know what you're getting.

Definitely wasn't me (had mine in a bag and left a little earlier). Still chuckling at the thought of everyone carrying boxes of wine around Trashfield; guess everyone had the same idea to stock up yesterday!
