Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

SK 95 sure is reassuring...

Is there a lack of wine reviewers out there? It seems like a high percentage of wines sold on sites like VM etc always seem to be SK/Wine Orbit?

Is it because he consistently gives high scores that his score is promoted, or is he the only one reviewing wines at this price point?

Does anyone know what the Langtons Confidential is today
Confidential MXXVI Cabernet 6 Pack, Coonawarra (RRP $150 per bottle)
The top wine from a popular Coonawarra Estate, this Cabernet boasts impressive (yet restrained) power, with swathes of complexity and beauty. A celebration of the vibrancy of the rich terra rossa, this Confidential is a shining example of what the Coonawarra does best. The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a plethora of pure and classic Cabernet aromas and flavours. The palate is bold, generous and structured with long, finely chiselled tannins.
*edit, guessing Penley Estate Helios?

There is no lack of wine reviewers out there, you only have to look at the staff of Winecompanion, Real Review, Winefront to see how many reputable reviewers there are. Sam Kim is paid and gives high scores. VM then use him as high scores sell until you wake up to Sam Kim and the fact that some wineries use it as a marketing tool.

Yes, Penley Estate Helios Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

2, 3 weeks ago from here I know Dan is having a clearance on some wine, I visited 2 stores, and found some bargains.

Bowen Shiraz $12.x
Seppelt Drumborg Pinot $8.x
Zonin valpolicella ripasso $10
PIO Langhe JL Nebbio $16.8
Kooyong Massale Pinot $11.5
Pyrene Lindemadable Blanc bec fume $5.8
Lerida Estate Pinot $11.x
M.Chapoutier CDP Les Grands Merisiers $35
Anon Tasmania $11.x
Pooley premier Pinot $14.x
Robert Mondavi Bourbon Barrels Chardonnay $12 (in LL)

When I visited 1 store and found around 10 Kooyong Massale, I just grab 6, because I tried 3 times Kooyong estate and its flagship. All of them are average. But this time it tastes good, open fermentation, layered, represents a typical pinot favour, long on palate. Next week I came back but all gone. Even in the barrel, there was a lot of Sticky Pinot $7.7, 6ft6 pinot $7.7, Seppelt charlambar shiraz around $8. All gone. Then I bought other pinots in the above list, but none of them beats or even close to Kooyong.

Today I visit hunter valley garden, on the way home I went to West Gosford Dan, there were 7 bottles of Kooyong Massale $16.7. I show him the previous receipt and ask for the same price. "No, we don't do the price match for other stores..... blabla. Maybe I can do it for you......" Finally, I can buy them for $11.5, they are 2021.

I can't buy any more wines. It almost reaches my wife's tolerant limit. I don't want to find out and hit that point.

Today I just visited Lakes folly. They sold out Cabs in last month. Usually, char sells quicker. I tasted Char 2021, it is good but not outstanding.

Zonin valpolicella ripasso worths at $10, PIO Langhe JL Nebbio was too light, less favour. Out of my expectation. Not sure whether the weather is too cold. Pyrene Lindemadable Blanc bec fume is good and can buy again. I may return M.Chapoutier CDP Les Grands Merisiers and Pooley premier as their review is so bad.

My stock already exceeded my wife's tolerance limit.....

Next time if you want to control yourself, don't buy it online or bring your wife with you to the liquor store......

Kooyong Massale Pinot $16.5 here, SA doesn't offer much.

It's probably luck of the draw rocking up, and in-store better than online I would say.

Nicks Wine has a 15% off flash clearance on today. It came up in my email, but if you type in 'flash clearance' on their website it comes up. There are 17 wines on sale, including Dukes Magpie Hill Reserve Shiraz.
