Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

It's a good deal price wise, poochio. But there has been a fair degree of bottle variation with this 2006, in particular the ones being acquired from Langton's. My 2006 was absolutely stunning. But it came in a very expensive Mystery Pack. The ones that were previously sold at $35 a bottle have not had the same reviews. I'm actually quite tempted, but I only want two and not 6.

Thanks Wozza. I agree 6 is a risk and would also be happy for a few. I'm also keen to try this for something different - I'd happily split a case with you if you can make it to Canberra :)

I've not been here. But from the website they do have an extensive range of older wines - that time seems to have forgotten.

I think the risk that you get something that is undrinkable is much less than the risk that there's nothing left worth buying next time you visit now that you have let the cat out of the bag on AFF.

I certainly don't recall this place being discussed by frequenters of this site previously - at least not in the detail you have expressed.

I know I'm now planning a trip tomorrow :) And have been told by several wine buying friends that they are planning on going this afternoon now that I've given them the tip off.

Wasted trip.

Several problems with the wine on offer, including:

1) It has been stored very poorly. Ullage levels well bellow where I would have expected for many of the wines.

2) Prices fair but certainly not cheap.

3) Parking very difficult in the area.

Haven't seen anybody posting re. Vintage Cellars wine and dine promo.

https://www.vintagecellars.com.au/SpecialOffers/CellarPressOffers

seems like a good deal, you buy selected wine and can redeem a voucher for use at Menulog - some eligible wines are trash but, you could buy 10x Metala cab sauv for $100 and get a $50 voucher. check out link for others.

T&C's
Look out for the products marked ‘WINE, AND THEN DINE’. All product offers marked ‘WINE, AND THEN DINE’ are available online at the prices marked, however the Menulog promotion is valid only on purchases made in store. Gifts are Menulog vouchers, valued at $25 if you spend $60-99.99, $50 if you spend $100-149.99, or $75 if you spend $150+. Gifts redeemable for 2 weeks from date of purchase.

Dans has another good mixed red offer going at the moment:

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_B999999000432?mid=LOY_WK51_RedPack_16&rid=424454565

Containing:

 • Ulithorne Chi Shiraz Grenache 2012
 • Campbells Shiraz Durif 2012 —92 points Campbell Mattinson
 • Sorby Adams The Thing Shiraz 2010 — Award winner
 • Shottesbrooke Single Vineyard Shiraz 2013 — 98 points Dan Murphy's Wine Panel
 • Yalumba FDR1A Cabernet Shiraz 2011 — 94 points James Halliday; Award winner
 • McWilliam's Hilltops Appellation Shiraz 2013 — 94 points James Halliday
I personally haven't tried any of them besides 'The Thing' from the last mixed red pack (which was lovely) but the pedigree for all of these seems pretty solid.

I am now reticent to order these delivery only boxes from Dans after the last one was undelivered due to "access difficulties" (there were none, the driver just wanted a long weekend), and the case bumped around in the back of the truck for another 4 days before access was miraculously easy.
I reckon it will take a month for the wine to settle. :(

I'm pretty sure it goes back to the depot if not delivered but I completely understand your frustration.
Had similar situation with a recent delivery from WineMarket. The driver allegedly came on Friday but due to "extraordinary long queue at reception" he couldn't wait and then also missed 2nd delivery because "wasn't told to come today and box not on the truck". Grrr!

also it seems 1st Choice might have Mount Langi Ghiran Shiraz $73 and Turkey Flat Shiraz $31 in a few stores to price match at Dan Murphy's
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/251909

Courtesy of OzBargain, 1st Choice again has a couple of good deals, including:

Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Shiraz 2012 2-for-$70 (today only)
Grosset Springvale Watervale Riesling $26/$27.40 (even cheaper than [post=1459725]Qantas epiQure's $28.50[/post])

This might be a good excuse for a pseudo Melbourne meetup. I'm tempted!

Yes - unfortunately I realised just after posting that that I'm away that week :(

However I would be interested in another - beefarmer mentioned he hadn't been to any - has one happened before? Who else might attend a Melbourne meetup?

Also what the hell First Choice, get click and collect!

Yep, they are well behind.

A number of stores have closed in the last 12 months because they just can't get it right..

...
The Dans girl who called said she could see no reason (looking on google earth) why it could not be delivered and said it would be delivered the next day. Ergo it was still on said truck...for 4 more days. grrrrrrr.

Thank you Cruiser. It is there temporarily to remember. Anyone alive in the olden days who used to watch the Ali fights in black and white (pun intended) would recall how even us white fellas were right behind Ali. What a brilliant boxer and a real character to boot.
I will take it down at the end of the month, but put it up there as it reminded me of when he was at his peak.
The father of a friend was on a committee who brought Ali and his new wife to South Shields UK (near Newcastle) to celebrate their muslim marriage in the Yemeni mosque there in 1977 or '78. I was over there studying at the time and was fortunate enough to have been very close to him, a moment I will not forget.

Not up to date with First Choice. Is that Yalumba price available in store or online only?

Also what the hell First Choice, get click and collect!

I'm in MEL ATM so chose click and collect but seems to be same price ($6.95) as delivery.

Edit: Managed to fix it by changing the postcode in my profile. For some reason the system didn't let me change it when trying to finalise the order.

Hi Qaz. I'd say it's worth the $20 admission each of me, AnonymousCoward, Katy and Alzoam paid for the Sydney event. There were just over 90 wines to taste in 2 hours, including some icon wines, like the Penfolds Max Schubert, Magill Estate and RWT, the Wynn's Michael and John Riddoch, Coldstream Hills Amphitheatre, the Wolf Blass Platinum, Saltram the Journal and Seppelt Show Sparkling Shiraz 04, (to name but a few). There was some nibbly food and the staff serving the wines were pretty helpful. The prices were mostly the same as you see on the CellarDoor.co website (but with some differences), except you got another $50 off for spending $300 - $499, another $100 off for spending $500 - $999 or another $150 off for spending over $1000. I really enjoyed it and really appreciated trying some serious (mostly young) icon wines. AC and Katy came away with some aged decent Wolf Blass (06) and other goodies. My tasting notes on the icon wines I tried will be posted to Vivino over the coming week as I steal some time (Dr Ralph will be pleased to hear I loved the Magill Estate - what a wine).

Well worth it. Went to the Brisbane event last night. Tasted everything we wanted to try except for a couple of disappointing omissions, The No.1, Journal and Seppelt Sparkling Show and the Annie Lanes.
Of the big guns our standouts were -
In order Penfolds - Magill - RWT - St Henri - followed by the Schubert which was incredibly tight and a questionable at price point.
Wynns Michael over the Riddoch by a long stretch, a six pack of the Black label purchased for the long term.
Wolf Blass Black label - got a serious wow from me and probably my pick of the night
Lindemans trio were all great Limestone (purchased), Pyrus then the St George
Devils Lair Cabernet - which was a steal and purchased.
All in all a great night
