Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

had 2002 and 2004 , not a wine to drink young , 2012 is very good vintage for mclaren vale . at this price it is worth to consider for sure

Just clicked & collected the Wolf Blass deal.
Not surprisingly vintages were way off, the Shiraz supposed to be 2012/13 but got 2011 and instead of the 40th vintage 2012 got the 38th vintage 2010.
Didn't check yet if I scored or got screwed...

They are absolutely useless....again this is how they flog off the rubbish like the 2011
I personally would have waited much later into the sale given their FIFO strategy
they disclaim vintage variation could occur from time to time but is has become as consistent as regular
I await comment from Dr Ralph...

$57/$60 at Dans agree looks like good deal anyone tried it and like to comment ?
can I ask the question as to why this wine looks good if your comment is based on price alone? I am probably missing the obvious botchee so forgive me, but a sixty bucker retailing for half could yield unpleasantness sometimes I am sure. Over to ya.

Sound like I got screwed then, wonderful...
I know 2011 wasn't a good year in that area but I did enjoy their 50 years single vineyard so thought maybe the Shiraz would be nice too. Guess I should give them a call and try to exchange at least some bottles.

I am a Tight Rssss (at least my kids have been telling me this for many years) so 1/2 price anything appeals to me. I did google it and saw what appeared to be some good reviews but thought I would ask if any of the wine intellectuals here had tried it prior to hitting the buy button, not that I will go wanting for any wine at home in the foreseeable future. In recent times I have made a few purchases from JD's and been pretty happy so thinking there's a possibility they may also not sell too much shabby sink wine ?

don't think botched mean about the wine . good deal is just the deal.or are you referring to my comment and misquote botched?

Wineries don't change barcodes between vintages - that's why DM put the disclaimer on their site. Their systems aren't able to track how many bottles of each vintage they have. I don't think it's a deliberate ploy to offload 2011 vintage wine.

The specific vintage releases that they do (e.g. the cellar release stuff, which promises a specific vintage) have DM affixed, separate barcodes, so you should always get the specific vintage that's being advertised, as DM is able to track that.

You are correct about the Bar Code (EAN code), however Woolworths, like all retailers, also use UPCs (unique product codes) which should eliminate just this sort of confusion. Basically a UPC is a code unique to WW or in this case Dan's (because they create it). Every retailer uses them...think linkages between back of house systems and accounting software that may not be able to cope with 11 or 13 digits, the same product coming from different sources (think Corona), etc. They are applied to stock as it enters the warehouse so there should be no excuses for picking the wrong vintage.

I don't believe that DM's do this consistently.

Should be able to get it down to at least $167.20 (less than $24 avge a bottle) by utilising click and collect with 5% wish card discount and 7% cash rewards cash back.

Got this deal today.

Ordered online and when I arrived to collect was given 6 x 2014 Grey Label Cab/Shiraz and 1 x 2013 Black Label.

I showed them the advertisement and told them what was supplied were all the wrong vintages. They said that they didn't get any of the advertised vintages in to stock for the sale.

Was given a refund in cash as I had paid with a giftcard. Not entirely happy with the process, but I have made $10 out of the deal as I obtained the giftcards at a 5.5% discount. I may also be lucky enough to keep the cashback rewards for this transaction.

So you could make another $13 out of this with cashback rewards.

Could be a good way for Dan's to be taught a lesson.

Yep, checked my local Dans... Greys are 2014 and black is 2013.

Same vintage at my DMs today. They managed to get everything wrong with this promo, unbelievable.

Whatever they do in their databases etc for accounting or other purposes, or even slapped on cartons, it's essentially useless unless the code is attached to a particular bottle and AFAIK that only happens for the Cellar Release stock of back vintages.

It's a nuisance, but not an insurmountable problem, just refuse to take delivery at click and collect or ask them to take it back if delivered. The may grumble at times, but they can't refuse and I've never had any difficulty if it's an unwanted vintage.
