Attention shoppers!
When in New York City do you struggle to buy good wine at a reasonable price?
Are you frustrated by wine retailers whose entire range would fit in a 36 bottle vintec, each bottle costing more than your airfare?
Well despair no more because Waterhouse Wines and Spirits is your home away from uncle Dans.
Technically it’s not a warehouse but it’s bigger than anything else I found in NYC. Think of the smallest Dan’s you know and the biggest BWS. It’s roughly mid-way between the two.
It also has a much bigger French selection than and Dan’s I’ve been too, and for Malbec lovers the back wall is 100% South America.
But what about price I hear you asking. Well how about 2013 Penfolds Bin 407 @USD49.99/btl. That’s USD54.39 after sales tax and at today’s FX rates is AUD70.52. That’s AUD4.50/btl better than Uncle Dan. (*yes I know you can do better with Wish & CR, but they’re now available in the US.
The store is cramped and badly laid out as it’s in an older building. But for the range and price I can live with that. Also, the service was better than any Dan’s I’ve been to.
Pics below should give you an idea. It’s on Broadway between 7th and 8th.

Not the massive upstairs storage area. There is also a temperature controlled cellar for their collection of “fine wines”. The 407, 389 & 169 should all be in the cellar IMHO.
