JDC Secret wine #115 appears to be Rosenthal
2013 Garten Cabernet Sauvignon
I jumped on this earlier in the day after working out the details (at least JD make it fairly easy to crack the code:)) I find it very hard to resist a WA Cab Sav at $12 or so a bottle. I only grabbed 6 as I am completely unfamiliar with the wine/winery but Halliday's review amongst others augers well.... If anyone has sampled it I would be curious to know whether I've blown my dough!

footnote: Langtons Vintage Chart gives Great Southern 10/10 for the 2013 vintage for Cabernet

At around $37 Mumm Rose NV from First Choice is very good value. Ordered, used click and collect and picked up in under 10 mins.

Picked up a case last year from VM for less than $10 as agree love WA cab. Not amazing but pretty decent quaffing for the money.

Thanks for that, I'm certainly only expecting a quaffer with that sort of buy-in price, I prefer WA cabs to those from the eastern states as they seem to have a bit more generosity and up-front drinkability (Maverick's Barossa Twins Cab Sav being a particular exception) cheers, W&D

Any ideas what the latest JD Cellars ransom is? Pretty sparing on the details...

Dear Friends,

I'm holding this Red Wine for RANSOM!

A short-and-sweet deal held hostage in anonymity
(it's so good I'm not even allowed to reveal it's vintage).
Just trust that I have never (nor would ever), let you down my friends.
My reputation rests upon it.

To protect the brand, this big name South Australian Shiraz is heavily policed in cyberspace, and watched with a hawk's eye in the discount market (even to my closed database) stopping me from even giving you a clue!

Why?

The average retail price of today's RANSOM is over $65
(and even up as high as $75)!

James Halliday has given 95, 96 and 97 points for each
vintage over the last 10 years!

It also has a Langtons "Excellent" Classification,
is a Multi-Award Winner, and is the "flagship" wine from the Estate.

What more I can tell you?
Nothing.

What I can tell you...

It is not...a 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014 nor 2016 vintage.

Remember...This is the exact same wine (cap, label and juice)
as what's sitting on the retail shelf for $70+...with a cellar life
up until 2040.

This bold, big name Shiraz will be delivered to your door, where all will be revealed.

There isn't a gun at your head my friends...but there is one at mine, should I reveal any more.

Grab what you can...but don't tell anyone where you found it.

First in, first served!

The offer (screwcap/impeccable provenance):

South Australian Shiraz 750ml @ $44.75
(this should be the lowest $ in the market; compare up to $75)

There's only ~10 shirazes on the Langtons Classification that are "Excellent" and from South Australia. Out of that, you can remove Bin 28, Bin 128 etc. since they aren't flagship wines. Then get rid of the ones that aren't $50-60 or so.

I'm guessing Wirra Wirra RSW / Tim Adams Aberfeldy / Katnook Prodigy. Too lazy to go look up all the Halliday scores to see which one's got the high scores for the last 10 years. :)

Though Elderton Command at first but price didn't match (boy am I out of touch with some prices these days!)
Wirra Wirra RSW is a good fit. Aberfeldy less consistent in ratings.

Tempted to go and get a few bottles to shore up my Penfolds St Henri collection. Will have to go and check my numbers.

I managed to resist Zontes Footstep Violet Beauregard Malbec 2015 for ~$10 but couldn't go past a few more Bleasdale reds. There was also some Pertaringa (as a secret deal), West Cape Howe cab merlot and Tintara shiraz that looked great until I checked the finances ;-)
