Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Just signed up for the Dans Cellar Release tasting on 30 July at our local Dans.
Cost $15 p/p but you can use this voucher towards any wine purchase.

I purchased a ticket for my local as well. The last cellar release sale was pretty decent. Figure I'll spend at least $15 anyway.

Now this is more like it.

With the DM's Cellar Release I had a quick glimpse of the prices for 6's of a few of the wines.

From (sometimes faulty) memory...

Koonunga Hill $70 for 6 (if it's the 2010 they have run a similar offer before), Wynns Red Stripe CSM 2010 $99 for 6 & 2008 Wynns Black Label Cab Sav $199 for 6. Those I'm reasonably sure of but not so for the 2006 Wolf Blass Black Label but it was the most expensive of what I saw. Pretty sure these prices were also valid until about the 5th of August & not just on the night.

If this event is anything like the last one, the inventory was very much store dependent and a printed list was handed out on entry to the store.
Prices not published online or elsewhere prior to it.
I'm hoping this event is similar.

Yes I am hoping too.
We got some tasty buys.

Princess Fiona if you mean the event in May this year that was a members stocktake sale, this is a Cellar Release so I expect it to be quite different with nowhere near the variety of lines available. If you check out the Cellar Release page on the DM site you will see the 4 wines I mentioned are featured.

I was disappointed the St Johns was not one of the eligible Wolf Blass wines with the current Treasury wines Vintec offer.

I am not a fan of Wolf Blass wines. While they are decent enough, I think they are overpriced for their quality.

I've already asked at 2 separate stores and no one knows for sure what sort of a deal will be on offer later this month. Based on the conversation I have back in May, there is supposedly another massive sale right before the new cellar release for this year.

And in my view that is totally understating it, Wolf Blass was a leader I think maybe 30 years ago, any one who thinks he still is is probably 60 plus. Not that I'm suggesting 60 plus is a bad thing (I'm close myself) but not changing your views over 30 years probably is. Wine quality really is much better than 30 years ago.

hi doc, I used to drink the Bin 61 and the blended Bin 56 in the ninetees-probably like you ! Been 18 odd years since I have tried them both. I am doing a little research on the harewood w.a. blend, hoping to get some real feel from the winery. this sort of background checking helps me out a bit, similar to what you are doing with the fancy quarto. sounds damn interesting, bringing American liquid and blending it with aussie stugg. go figure ! truly amazing

I get a couple of bottles of each of these every year. I do prefer the BIN 56. I'd say the average price was around $14 a bottle. So today's price is v good.

I cellar (everything usually) for at least 5 years. I'm up to the 2006's at the moment and these are fine. Better than OK. Not outstanding wines, but for the price, above average. I have heard that the 2011 is very ordinary (and expectedly so with the poor vintage for the area that year), but I won't find this out myself for several more years yet.

I do like your style in cellaring and appreciate what you do. with screw caps these days, wines last longer...and taste better...provided you get the right time window.....under 15 for anything is great value...I am sure you have had a few imbibers together to do a 5-8 bottle vertical. would be so much fun for the knowledge and experience...cheers....
