Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I tried both First Choice and Vintage Cellars. It was interesting to see the price variations on the daily stickers between the stores but also interesting that at Vintage Cellars the guy behind the counter said he'd price match anything they had, based just on me telling him what the offers were. So between the two I ended up with:
Cullen Cab Merlot $20
Petaluma Merlot $30
Casella Limited Cab $20
Ringbolt Cabernet $10
Coriole Sangiovese $10
Forester Cab Sauv $10
Mitchell Peppertree $10
Rose Kentish Temp Shiraz $10
Woods Crampton Eden Shiraz $10
Ringbolt Cab $10
Paracombe Shiraz $10
Mildara Limestone Cab $5
Knappstein Cab $5

Now I just need to sneak them past my wife into the cellar, which is already overflowing.

Plus... a lesson about wearing dark glasses in a dark store. In between the Cyril Henschke and Mount Edelstone was a Mount Mary for $59.99. I grabbed it thinking it was the Quintet (it was in the red section), and only realised when I got home it was the Triolet. I am not really a white drinker...

Our finds:
Two Hands Lily's Garden $30
Howard Park Cab $10
Soumah pinot $20
Voyager Estate Girt by Sea $10
Paringa Estate Pinot $30
Pfeiffer merlot $10

Found some 2014 Redman Shiraz amongst all the 2015's for $10.

Took a punt on Dutschke St Jakobi shiraz $20. Hardys Char shiraz $10.

St Hugo, Old Adam, Beresford and Majella at prices already quoted here.

Was tempted by Craiglee at $40, havent seen it that price before. But not a huge discount from its usual $56.

Fomo clearly a problem for me. I went back to First Choice again today.

I may need to reopen/update this thread:

Ha. Was thinking about doing the same but there are none really close to me. Looks like there was still a bit on the shelves on offer
Yes. Some of the items that were there yesterday had completely gone. But there were some new items on display today (mainly lower end wines) that definitely were not on display yesterday.

Thought about the Pierre Rougon. Not often you see a CNDP for $20. Have you had it before?

No. But I did some reading on it. Seems it goes down for between 8 to 12 years. This is the 2016. I'm very tempted to try it tonight and get some more if I like it and put those new bottles away for a few years. At about $50 down to $20, I am happy to give it a punt.

Update: opened this tonight. Much lighter blend then I expected. Not really my style, won't be buying any more.

Has anyone been to FC at Ashfield, NSW yet? Could go tomorrow, but get the feeling that most stores have been cleared of the best buys already.

I checked my local stores (Melb) late afternoon today and not a lot left. Here's what I found:

[1C] Devil's Lair The Hidden Cave Cab Shiraz 2017 $10
[1C] Marques de Caceres Rioja Crianza 2015 $5
[LL] Grant Burge Cameron Vale Barossa Cab Sav 2017 $10 (was more expensive @ 1st Choice)
[1C] Ring Bolt Cab Sav 2017 $10
[LL] Haselgrove MVS Shiraz Cab 2016 $5 (ticket said $10)
[1C] Paxton AAA Shiraz Grenache 2017 $5
[1C] I Am George George The Fixer Margaret River Cab Sav 2016 $10

Got chatting with a staff member who told me price tickets went up Friday morning and some staff went in to buy on their day off, so word got around quick.

Of those, if I go to a store tomorrow I'd maybe still see Devil's Lair & I Am George, rest were low stocks or I took last few bottles.

I got the last WB black label and Henschke Mt edelstone plus a penfolds reserve bin16a Chardonnay for $90. I’ve never had the bin16a so I’m keen to try that one

The St Jakobi is a decent drink. I picked up a heap of the 2012 and 2015 on clearance at dans @ $14.50 a while back :) I was happy with that. JH gave both 95 points, cellar medium-long term

Paid with Coles/Myer gift cards purchased at 20% discount with AMEX earlier this year.
Which store did the WB blacks at 40

@boomy they’re $60 at my local but they’ll price match if I can tell them which First Choice did them at $40

I only looked at the pinots yesterday at a couple Brisbane stores and it was all cheap and unknown stuff on sale, except for ‘16 Escarpment which was $20. But escarpment is a hard-pass for me. Probably why it was heavily discounted

Newstead.

It might have been price error. The cashier looked a bit surprised but let it slide, probably because I only got two bottles plus a whole bunch of other stuff.
