Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

If I recall correctly, they've done this a couple of times previously. With the 2012 vintage from memory.
I think it's the only way they can sell it - I fell for the ploy once - never again - very ordinary IMHO but obviously we all have different tastes. Make sure you have tried it before a bulk buy pen boy?

They seem to offer it every 3-4 months. I believe it is a woolies exclusive wine. A very big fruit driven shiraz which many may find over the top. I enjoy it though and like to get some each year. Besides, who doesn't enjoy opening a magnum?

I believe it is a woolies exclusive wine.

It is a Woolies exclusive wine in Australia, although it is released overseas as well (well at least I have seen it for sale in the US).

Besides, who doesn't enjoy opening a magnum?

Absolutely! There's nothing like the satisfaction of finishing a magnum, save for the satisfaction of finishing a jeroboam!

I have never tried the CR Shiraz but have had it pushed pretty hard at my local BWS

So you think this is a good drop Dr Ralph? After your last recommendation of the Lunatiq im tempted to back you again on this one...

It's not as good value as the lunatiq. But I've bought several cases over the last 2 yrs.

I'll give it a miss. At $20/bottle I would expect a bit more than a fairly drinkable quaffer given what I have recently purchased between $7.50 - $10.

It's a nice wine. I call it a quaffer as it is quite drinkable, its no basket press but Id be ok paying $20 for it.

I did get a good bottle of wine home that I double wrapped then put in a box in the middle of a suitcase as a tester.i could not find anyone who stocked a polystyrene wine bottle holder so I will fly to the U.S. with a couple in October. This wine will be a lovely birthday present for a friend.

The majority of quality wine bottles are much more sturdily constructed than the old cork closure Bordeaux style bottles that used to be the norm. Have successfully transported many (non Bordeaux style) between CBR and BKK over the years in a now aged Samsonite clamshell case. Sometimes wrapped in a T shirt but usually just placed in the central area of the case with clothes placed so they can't knock together.

QF also successfully transported a hard rollaboard case (in the hold) from CBR-MEL-HBT with 8 bottles on board, just interleaved with a couple of towels. At 15kg I didn't think it could go as hand luggage (even in J) and I didn't want it to breakfree from an OH locker and seriously damage whoever it struck.

So no red stain on my new clothes from the bottle of Cab Sav I transported in my suitcase. I used a box, old clothes to fill the box, bubble wrap from Fedex and a 3M wine glove from Bevmo. A bit of overkill but a great result.

Sounds like overkill Cove when you can easily buy a single malt, you know the bottles that come in the tube? Drink the golden nectar. Slip the red into the tube and into your bag and stagger off to catch your train...bus...I mean plane. ;)

I just got this offer from Wine Direct this morning and grabbed 2 cases The 'Too Good to be True' Premium Red Dozen it's called "Christmas in Abesntia" on the website.

The 2012 Alpha Crucis is an amazing drop, I have had previous vintages and will be tucking those away to age, along with the Leconfield Cabernet and Heirloom Shiraz. Definitely worth a buy IMHO
