Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Regarding Blockhead, I must admit here to a certain bias I have with wine.

I just find the label very crass, if that is the term? I know many would think that a wine should be judged just on it's content's merits, but I am not so rational. I hate cheap gimmicks, bizarre labels, etc. I value the same wine better if in a heavy bottle with a decent punt. That is just me. I dislike the random/jarring/aesthetically unpleasing Blockhead label. There are many tens of thousands of good wines out there, so I happily discount this one just for that silly personal reasoning. :)

Each to their own.

Blackwell punches well outside price point IMO. No idea about Blockhead.
I have both '15 and '16 Blackwells, very good wines. I've only tried the shiraz Grenache blockhead labels and enjoyed it as well although not as smooth as Blackwell.
Drinking an ‘11 Blackwell tonight, lovely Barossan Shiraz
(picked up from Cracker for $18.32 - a deal posted on AFF at the time)

CellarOne or CellarDoor (can't remember which one) has a good price on these <$30 but you'll need to join via invite from an existing member and only select few members can give you an invite (I'm not one of these select members)

I think the blackwell is decent, but not sure if it punches well outside of price point - the 2016 is a good big bold Barossan, but had to leave it overnight before it was drinking well, probably good drinking when it's been cellared for a while.

How does it compare to the Filsell?

How does it compare to the Filsell?

Haven't had the Filsell but I have had the Trinity and Balthasar, unfortunately I don't remember the Trinity being that memorable.

It's definitely bigger in profile than the Balthasar and should age better imo. The Balthasar however is just easy and ready to drink now as the tannins are pretty soft and it's a pretty juicy drop, still has decent length and complexity but wouldn't expect much from it over time.

Filsell would be a better comparison also coming out of the barossa but the seasoned drinkers on here probably have the answer.

I really like Blackwell but it needs some years on it before drinking. I bought up the 2012 for $25 a few years back and all I share it with think it's extremely good now. I think Filsell is about as good but I haven't had as many vintages of it to know. Based on what I have had, the Blackwell is a bit bigger. If you can get either for reasonably below $30 I think you'll be happy when you drink them. Once you're paying $30, there's a lot of good competition at that price point.

Tried to get my money back on some dud cork under wraps wines from Dan Murphy's. Could tell right away the person wasn't interested in coming to the party by the body language. Wasn't even interested to look at the bottles. Tells me I have to take it to one of the stores that are distribution centres as they can't bring it up in their system even though I had the receipt and original box with their order number. Anyone else run into problems like this? I'm concerned that if I bother making the trip to one of these centres, I may be met with the same lack of care.

Faulty products
If a product you have purchased from Dan Murphy’s is faulty, damaged (excluding damage caused by misuse), wrongly described or breaches a consumer guarantee, we will cheerfully refund your money, exchange or, where possible, repair the product.

For some high value products, Dan Murphy’s reserves the right to have the product assessed for acceptable quality prior to discussing a suitable remedy with you. For products that cannot be assessed in store, we will arrange for the product to be sent to the manufacturer (or relevant repair agent) for assessment. It may be more convenient for you to liaise with the manufacturer directly (which may be more time efficient). You certainly have that option. Our Customer Care Team is happy to provide you with their relevant contact details to assist you.

To make a claim under our faulty returns policy, please contact:

  • for online or instore purchases: your nearest Dan Murphy’s store or our Customer Care Team on 1300 72 33 88
  • for Direct from Supplier purchases: our Customer Care Team on 1300 72 33 88,
to organise the faulty product to be returned.
We will ask you for a valid proof of purchase when returning a faulty product. Some examples of acceptable proof of purchase are your original receipt, tax invoice, a credit card statement clearly showing your purchase at Dan Murphy’s or your My Dan’s statement which can be found in the My Purchases section in your account). If your purchase incurred a delivery fee, then we will also cover the cost of delivery for the return.

In my limited experience of returning wines (happened twice), I have only positive feedback for DMs.
The first was a wrong vintage, which they automatically asked whether I wanted a refund or replacement, no proof of purchase needed. The refund was at full price.... so yay....

The second was bottle leakage of a 2010 Pomerol. I still wanted the wine so they directed me to the closest store that had stock for exchange. Manager did request order number, but was mainly to accertain which hub it came from, so he could balance out stock number. But otherwise, effortless exchanges.

You Sir, similar to the cork you recieved, have just run into a dud employee.

A warning.

Whilst my local Dan's was a great place to procure some nice red, it's sadly out of reach in another country at the moment. So, I thought I'd order some on line. I should have read the feedback first. I ordered something from the UK on the same day, and it's already here. Shipped via Antarctica for all I can tell. Their tracking isn't worth anything either.

If it doesn't turn up by the end of the week, I'll do a chargeback and see if that gets their attention.

Did anyone ever work out if it was possible to give referrals to Pernod ricard friends/family store?
Hey Jimmy - send me a message with your email and name - I can get my friend - she works for them to invite you to Henry & Paul - the Pernod Ricard store.

I have had a few Blockhead shiraz - 2017 - It punches above its weight - good full bodied rounded wine with good fruit - oak and vanilla notes - great everyday drinker.

I have not had a problem by using customer service and organizing both credit and pick up
