Aldi is doing their wine job superbly. Sold out of catalog Drambie and $40 Scotch most stores I tried. Then I found Dan's had price matched Drambie to $55, for now( The new stuff, with an inferior taste). The Alfred Gratein champers is unobtainable in Australia, and I had no luck shelf hunting.

Wow! Am not the expert at these things, but to match a clearance item is amazing - well done!!

There are a couple of bottles of the Henschke at BWS near me, but am dithering on whether to pick up a pair....

Edit: further info specifically regarding Dan Murphy's price match guarantee: (from their website)

" this policy does not apply to overseas online and duty-free retailers, liquidation or clearance sales "
You might get lucky at a Dans with matching a clearance item, but we are not supposed to. :)

Dan's mostly change their prices to match the ALDI price from the day the special starts, which is great given that ALDI stocks tend to be pretty limited.

Just while we are discussing price matching (or price beating as Dans does), please be aware of the geographical restriction that, again by the "rules", they only do this for product available in competitors stores within a 10km radius of the Dans store where you present (unless it it an online offer).

This whole pricing thing is an extremely complicated thing, that in my experience involves a hell of a lot of work on Dan's part. Each day we may have to change many dozens of physical pricing labels in the store, as the "proactive" side of price-matching happens. Online, there are literally hundreds of price changes each day. And as most here would be aware, not all Dans stores have the same price for a particular product - a result, partially, of this game. Yet another angle is that sometimes a customer will find a cheaper price, and want us to beat it, but the price they show does not include delivery...... It is a nightmare :) Overall though, I find the Dans ethos to always put the customer first - sorry if that sounds corny - I don't earn enough to spruik them - but they do IMHO really try to honour their price beat promise.

I have to admit to a love-hate relationship with Dan Murphy's. And that goes as far back as the original Chapel St store in the late 60's.

I don't think I have ever used the "Lowest Liquor Price" guarantee, if I find a lower price on a wine I'm after it is usually at a merchant I would prefer to support.

Pretty much all my buys from Dan Murphy are the super-specials, Under Wraps when the prices are low (not currently) and the mistaken (or deliberately low) prices for some wines in some stores that I can take advantage of via a Parcel Collect address to get into the relevant delivery area. It's a long time since I actually visited a store and bought something off the shelf.

I haven't bought anything there since the last Frenzy promotion, after that the Under Wraps prices went up and they changed the web site to make it so frustrating that I only occasionally bother to go look for a particular wine.

Dan Murphy is big and successful and profitable, despite the sometimes crazy and probably loss-making deals and sub-standard site, but there is a world of wine outside their scope, much of it better and more interesting, especially compared to the increasing proportion of exclusive/own-label wines offered.

And it's not the customer that is always first, it's always the shareholders. Keeping (most of) the customers happy is just the means to that end.

Free delivery if you chose under 2hrs for the next couple of days (save $15 delivery fee). Not sure on the conditions

Cellardoor have seppelt show sparkling shiraz 2007 for $65/bottle at the moment

maybe call them to check stock?

good price, even better for those who have/had a voucher - interestingly, my shareholder account only shows the 2008 at full price, with no 2007 appearing at all

Aloha all,

just looking for any comments on the following under-wraps from Dans:

I think this is the Clarendon Hills Brookman - most likely overpriced at the RRP of $50, but probably a good drop for $12.90? This 2012 vintage got a JH 92. (The 2011 and 2014 got JH93 and JH96 respectively)

I think this is the Thompson Estate - again probably ok for the $9.90 vs the RRP of $50? I think this is served in QF business. JH93 for this 2016 vintage (and JH96 for 2014, and JH95 for 2017)

Am I correct in identifying these? And would people agree that they are good value?

I think you're right on both guesses. The brookman has been under wraps several times. I very much enjoyed the 2013 I bought. From what I saw a bunch of people sent the 2014 back as corked/tainted

Regarding the Clarendon Hills, in my limited experience, all the bottles I have ever bought used corks, yet the Dans description says screw cap. I assume the Dans site is incorrect? I think old Roman loves his corks and heavy bottles.... (and heavy RRP :) )

The 2013 were corks. As were the 2014. I'd guess it's an error on the dans website

Any advantages to being a shareholder over and above what you can get from having a normal cellardoor account?
