Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Me too, but this is part of an important healing process with me and langtons after they buggered up my last order of this kind of thing and I cried about my missing Astralis for weeks!!
... and dammit I was in such a rush I forgot about the very generous 1.5% cashback that langtons have! $9. Throwing it away...

No matter, I found a nice way to blow my cash... old Clarendon with, if it's the same config as last time Clarendon did this, a bottle of Astralis...

The scores indicate Astralis 2008. Nice deal considering this bottle alone cost $480 at DM.

I have the 2006 from a different Langton’s deal. Wonder if they really worth the retail price and why it seems Aussie wine critics don’t rate Astralis as much as other great reds.

Astralis are big, agressive and tannic wines (At least the few I have tried) and they epitomise that style. These super premium wines are usually about style (often high %'s new oak), big international scores (Americans score the Astralis highly) and rareity (usually exclusive single plot/vineyard).

Quality, as always, is subjective and can be found at most price points

I never tried that too. But 2 of my friends said it doesn't worth for the price. And 09(because of the age of 11) is risky unless you know it still not pass the peak.
We shall see. I expect it will be ok value at $50 or $100. I'd never come close to paying the $300+ retail. That is plain silly. The Liandra is '09 and from what I've read isn't past peak yet (Halliday gives the label a 20 year drinking window, which seems about right for mid-primo McLaren Shiraz). Yum! I'll let you guys know if it's a burn!

... oh and he gives Astralis a 30yr window. Should be just about right, tiny bit young, if it's the 08. Interesting that both of these are in a hole in Halliday's guides. I wonder if that's why Clarendon has leftovers

Thanks for your input. The fact that Astralis get very high scores with respectable overseas critics makes me believe the RRP is genuine. We don’t have that many great Aussie reds at this price point so I find it hard to understand why Clarendon Hills seem to be almost ignored by local critics. When other big names like Penfolds and Henschke release new vintages wine critics are standing in line to score them but it’s not the case with Astralis or any other CH wines.

Sign up to Saltram website (free and no referral) and all orders get bonus bottle of Angaston Road 2016 Shiraz. Delivery is free once you sign up. No idea if Angaston road is any good, hard to find any proper reviews. however one option is to purchase one bottle of Angaston road $63 and a second is thrown in free...so only $31.50 a bottle

Does not look to stack with the $25 off first order code saltram25
