Twice as much funAs a wine newbie, what's the advantage of a magnum above a normal 750ml bottle?

Welcome aboard ExCon, valid pointsI wonder what the click through rates to AFF have been. Owners of AFF would have seen a nice spike in traffic and boost to website monetisation and ad revenue. The real winners out of all of this
For those who have got notifications from Wynns, did you order the 2012 black label shiraz or something else?
Not much. But if you aim to store for a newborn's 18th or something, it oxidises slower, so more fruit and less of a leather chair. As a wine newbie, what's the advantage of a magnum above a normal 750ml bottle?
I found a 'not bad' deal using the Penfolds discount code. Please PM me if you are interested.
I received order confirmations from wynn's for V&A lane on the day (midday sat), but no auspost tracking yet. Penfolds tracking came through earlier today.I ordered the PX
1) Prestige.As a wine newbie, what's the advantage of a magnum above a normal 750ml bottle?
The magnum bottle is thicker than the 750ml one, so oxidize slower. But I found it is harder to store unless you have a proper cellar, most wine fridges are designed for 750ml bottle. Not much. But if you aim to store for a newborn's 18th or something, it oxidises slower, so more fruit and less of a leather chair.
Production costs for magnums are probably also much higher due to the non-standardized format. So I guess there's a "bang-for-buck" argument, if the cost is just 2x 750ml price.

Ages slower due to lower airspace to liquid ratio - not because of glass thicknessThe magnum bottle is thicker than the 750ml one, so oxidize slower. But I found it is harder to store unless you have a proper cellar, most wine fridges are designed for 750ml bottle.
yes, you are correct, it is due to lower airspace to liquid ratio.Ages slower due to lower airspace to liquid ratio - not because of glass thickness
Lol yeah AFF probably made 10 cents from all the trafficI wonder what the click through rates to AFF have been. Owners of AFF would have seen a nice spike in traffic and boost to website monetisation and ad revenue. The real winners out of all of this
The cabernet six is an interesting mix - the 2012 Edward Salters are discounted to $65 on the site from $100 and there's two in the half dozen. The Devil's lair is a nice wine too. That's not counting the black label and mamre brook (bad vintage on that one tho). For $159 it looks like a pretty good deal to me.Cellardoor.co, There are 4 mixs appears tonight. 6+ bonus bottle, , the cabernet bundle looks good.

I'm bud too. I saw them at the end of the fine wine week selection...which section are you seeing these?
not appearing under promo or mixed selection for me.

Can Lakes really go pass the “dull” phase and get better? I still have a few bottles 2011 Lakes...1) Prestige.
2) Should age longer than the 750ml version (matures slower).
3) Great gift idea.
4) Travels better (I've taken magnums as gifts to people I know in Canada several times).
5) Celebration event bottle.
And even bigger than magnum is even better
I had a double magnum of Lakes Folly Cabernets for my 50th and have a magnum of Grange set aside for my 60th (should I make it).
Sadly, that is one wine I've never taken to. A friend of mine brings out some each birthday and to me there's usually something tastier on the table. I find it has a not so nice earthy taste even after a decant and breathe...Can Lakes really go pass the “dull” phase and get better? I still have a few bottles 2011 Lakes...
It is fruity when young, and get earthy when aged. Will open a bottle this weekend and see how it goes. 2011 also meant to be a great year too.Sadly, that is one wine I've never taken to.
