Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

The 2006 St Henri & Chris Ringland for $99 My Dan Murphy's offer would appear to be much better! Unlesss I'm missing something? Finshes tomorrow.

Depends what you are after. If you want 2008 St Henri, then the DMs offer isn't of much use :)

I went in to get the St Henri not even knowing about the decanter. Was a bonus.

How does the 08 rate against other St Henri vintages?

2008 was a strong vintage. I tried it upon release and thought it was pretty good. Certainly much better then the 2007 and 2009.

I'll post Jeremy Oliver's ratings for the decade when I get a chance if anyone likes?

Is it any good? I've got a bottle of the Reservation but know nothing about it.
"flavours of sweet blackberry, dark chocolate and old fashioned fruit cake." according to the blurb. It is a robust wine, not alot of tannin. This one is 2013 so not complex as you would expect. Says it will keep 25 years. I'd like to come back to it then but that is an unlikely outcome. I am not well versed in wine nomenclature but have dunk enough to know good from bad. If you like a robust wine then this one will please.

As promised, there are Jeremy Oliver's ratings for the St Henri

2000 - 89
2001 - 90
2002 - 97
2003 - 92
2004 - 96
2005 - 92
2006 - 91
2007 - 93
2008 - 94
2009 - 91
2010 - 97

If anyone is interested in historic ratings and drinking windows, Jeremy Oliver's Australian Wine Annual should be on your bookshelf. I find it a great reference book and find his tasting notes ring bells with me. I also like the fact his ratings seem more realistic than many other Australian wine gurus.

My Woolies receipt voucher from yesterday is for buy one, get one free Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cab Sauv.
With a cost of $16.99 (ok, it is less at Dans) the price comes down to $8.50 each which is good value IMHO.
A particularly good deal if you want the Samsung too. Buy 5 bottles for $84.95 and get 10 bottles! You can even wish for less ;)

I did ring my local to confirm that you can actually buy more than one bottle with the voucher and was told don't see why not.

Last month the voucher was for Peter Lehman (Portrait Shiraz I think); wishing we'd used it but we have enough wine at the moment.

All this Kemeny's talk got me to their site.
The best %off is the $19 from $70
[h=1]Hidden Label Special Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2012[/h]The early release of the flagship red from a premier McLaren Vale winery. Rich, complex aromas of dark and red fruits, mocha and some dried herb and spice.
Deep, smooth plum and dark cherry flavours, with savoury overtones of earth, graphite, dark chocolate and toasty oak.
Firm, fine tannins are perfectly matched by the depth of fruit, and a line of fresh acidity balances the richness.
Excellent drinking immediately, but will develop beautifully in the cellar, for at least a decade. Elite shiraz.

Not many clues except Kemeny's TN, but I think it's Wirra Wirra RSW.

Oh, thatd be nice!

I'm going to grab some of the Coonawarra cab sav (Leconfield) when I get a chance. Maybe I should throw one of those in...

It seems that the actual wine is "hidden somewhere" in the label. Maybe you could spend some time at home identifying the actual wine.
I am reluctant purchasing "hidden label" wines which are essentially "cleanskins" when Vinomofo and others offered fully labelled at similar discount.

I've put in an order to happy to examine the bottles when they arrive. I'm willing to take the risk when its $18/19....I've researched based on the reviews and advice of others on here so I'm 100% confident. They'll be for us rather than gifting so the lack of label is no big deal for me.
