Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

"Still, only the best barrels make the cut, ensuring only 1% of our total Shiraz production makes the Obsidian grade."

If the Hidden Label is supposedly "Gemtree Obsidian" then it must be the other 99% that failed to make the grade.
Then it's NOT a TRUE Obsidian. :(

Obsidian is cork closure. Kemeny's photo looks like stelvin.
RSW is Stelvin.
If you read the full description, Halliday advised them to use the screw cap. It also says the wine comes from the same barrels as the named wine, but was removed early. So it is Obsidian but with less barrel age. It's still in that 1%.

You are right. I missed that part of the description. So it's the Obsidian and not the Obsidian.
Came from same barrels but siphon off earlier and use screw top.
One wonders why?

Maybe they had too much and risked diluting it's 'elite' status

All this Kemeny's talk got me to their site.
The best %off is the $19 from $70
Hidden Label Special Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2012

The early release of the flagship red from a premier McLaren Vale winery. Rich, complex aromas of dark and red fruits, mocha and some dried herb and spice.
Deep, smooth plum and dark cherry flavours, with savoury overtones of earth, graphite, dark chocolate and toasty oak.
Firm, fine tannins are perfectly matched by the depth of fruit, and a line of fresh acidity balances the richness.
Excellent drinking immediately, but will develop beautifully in the cellar, for at least a decade. Elite shiraz.

Not many clues except Kemeny's TN, but I think it's Wirra Wirra RSW.

This has been sitting on their shelves for sometime. I remember buying a bottle towards the end of last year. Don't believe I've consumed it yet.

They often have hidden label sparkling and they've been great value in the past.

Trickle of offers has turned to a flood:

Any idea what this is?
I got email that is slightly different, rrp $50

So when a parcel of old vine Shiraz from some of Barossa’s finest vineyards (dating back to 1912) got offered to us – I have to say I got a little excited.

Normally sold for about $100 per bottle, this juice is Barossa Valley down to its bootstraps. Bold and mouth-filling with beautifully concentrated blackberry, chocolate and black pepper spice-laced fruit – finished off beautifully in Rolls Royce quality new oak.

Hailing from the 2011 vintage (one of the toughest in years) the winery took the bold decision not to release their most esteemed label, instead using the juice from the old blocks for their second label. As a result, it’s one of the best they’ve ever produced.

At $50 this 94 point icon is an absolute steal. However, for today only we’re letting it go half that again at just $24.95 per bottle (gift-boxed in six packs).

Did we arrive at a final consensus on: The best % off is the $19 from $70 - Hidden Label Special Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2012

Did we finally decide was it the Wirra Wirra RSW or the Gemtree Obsidian?

Edit: Spoke to Kemenys and was surprised they had no hesitation in confirming both hidden labels are indeed Leconfield and Gemtree Obsidian

The consensus is Obsidian (I suggested RSW before) but siphon off barrels earlier than regular for Hidden Label.

As I indicated in a previous message, this has been my experience with them.

Bought Noble One 2008 Gift Pack (2 free glass) $23.89 Costco Lidcombe.
Dan Murphy's $27.60 2011 - no free glasses.

Cruiser, which KHL are you & Kemenys saying is the Leconfield. I can't see a description that matches? Are you looking at KHL 8098 @ $18/doz?

Nice deal, are the glasses any good though or just promo material?

Very nice glasses with "De Bertoli Noble One" printed.
Glass similar to champagne glass.
Makes a very good "thiing sound", that's how I rate a good wine glass.

Just as many rate the sound of doors closing on BMW and Merc.

Not sure of the code. But I think it's:

[h=2]Hidden Label Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet does it again[/h] With his weekly UK wine column read by over 9 million people, Matthew Jukes is one of the world's most respected wine critics. His annual publication of the "100 Best Australian Wines" is the 'go-to' list for wine lovers looking for the 'best of the best' Australian wines.
For some years now, Kemenys has been able to secure, under its Hidden Label Reserve label, one of Coonawarra's most elite cabernets. It is no surprise to us, that Matthew Jukes included our Hidden Label Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 in his 100 Best Australian Wines of the 2014/15. Matthew could not have been more certain of its inclusion in the Top 100 saying that "this glorious cabernet stepped over the line without a moment's hesitation" going on to say "this is a nostalgic wine with serious appeal and stunning accuracy".
Not that anyone needed more convincing, but Australia's most famous wine critic James Halliday has just given his nod of approval of this Coonawarra classic. Halliday rated it a massive 96 points out of 100 saying that "the vivid purple-crimson colour semaphores a wonderfully elegant, intensely aromatic and definitively flavoured Coonawarra cabernet".
This wine is available at the cellar door of this famous winery for $33.50 a bottle, whilst the recommended retail price is $38.95 a bottle - so our price of $18 under Hidden Label is not too shabby at all.

Yes, I know that sound well and indeed rate on a similar basis. Some can really make their glasses sing, its quite a trick.

Yes CH the KHL 8098 - I called them this morn and after quoting my Order Nos was not a problem for them to confirm what the wines were.
