Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I got a sixer of these a month or so ago off just wines: McGuigan Handmade Shiraz 2009, McGuiganThe Shortlist Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 and Tempus Two Pewter Shiraz 2011.

I believe McGuigan is a pretty decent winery, and the Handmade Shiraz was sublime. Is it available cheaper elsewhere? :D

Costco's Deals:

Penfolds 389 2012 $59.69, DM $71.30

d"Arenberg Dead Arm 2010 $54.99 DM $64.60

View attachment 43175

DM and/or other places have had each of these wines for less than the Costco price in the last 12 months.

I'm yet to see any instance where Costco is cheaper than somewhere else. That is, the Costco price is available elsewhere - although this may be an "on special" price. Wy would I pay Costco a membership fee to obtain items at the same price I can get elsewhere if I have some patience and actually check other sellers offerings? Why would I want to be forced into shopping at just one place?

McGuigan is a massively over rated winery. Expects people to pay a premium for their wines which just isn't deserved.

Crikey Ralphy - that's a bit rough - and a bit out of character for you. Other posters are permitted to hold personal views based on their personal taste - and if those views are contrary to yours doesn't make you right or them wrong - we are all different - we are all individuals.

I've seen prices at Costco that I've not seen elsewhere. It's also good for things other than wine so for some, the membership price is worth it. For us it certainly has been.

We bought 2 botts this last visit to Costco - $34 bott if IIRC - pour it into blender with ice and whammy - frozen margarita on the spot - $2 / drink - actually heading back ASAP to grab another half doz botts.

Any american or foreign wines in Costco that are great or worth getting?
Difficult to find/try american wines especially Oregon Pinot Noir.

Mumm with 2 glasses for $34. Noble One (2008) with two glasses for $24. Wolf Blass Black Label for $90. Etc etc.

December 2014 - Wolf Blass Black Label Cabernet blend 2008 $60pb

As for the Mumm and the Nobel One, packaged with glasses they may have been exclusive to Costco, but other than that it's very close to the price I could get it for in the last 12 months. Cracka has had Mumm cheaper in the last 12 months. You might like to have a look at that site.

But I essentially get the glasses for free and that works for me. No one is saying you have to like or shop at costco but its good for us.

Yes but he should be entitled to express his opinion too. Personally I agree with him, though I didn't feel the need to put it in writing when I first saw the post. But yes everyone is entitled to their own tastes, what I disagree on is that if someone has different tastes they should be forced to keep quiet.

I would agree that Costco is consistently cheap (and always good to get decent glasses for nothing) but also agree there are plenty of places to watch if you want to maximise value. While Costco is cheap what I don't believe they do (and most retailers do) is offer loss-leaders, I.e. I suspect they are making a small profit on every item.

Of course. I'm the bargain queen. I always find the best bargains.
